1) Don’t buy w/out hearing the specific cymbal. They vary so much, not a good gamble to buy any model unheard. Only exception might be some Paiste machine-made lines, they’re pretty consistent.
2) Some shops with good demo recordings of individual #cymbals are:
-Mycymbal
-Roundsound
-Hazelshould
-Cymbalsonly
-Philly Drum
-Steve Maxwell/Good Hands
I’ve bought from all of them. With Hazelshould, the vids are trustworthy but don’t pay attention to his sales text, it’s baloney.

@utkanos oh man the quest for the perfect balance of stick and crash is a dragon most of us chase for years. Some of my faves are Zildjian K Constantinople and the new A Avedis, Paiste Dark Energy Mk II, 602, and Signature, Istanbul Agop Traditional, Bosphorus Traditional, and Zildjians from the 1950s. I also like partial lathing like spiral cuts, or lathed only one side, etc. Look for weights around 2200 g for a 21” and 2500 g for a 22”. #cymbals #drums

My first K, exciting times! #drums #cymbals

For #CymbalSaturday here’s one of my favorite flats, a Sabian Jack DeJohnette signature 20”. I absolutely adore his flat ride sound on record, and I’ve tried a bunch in pursuit of that sound. The other Encore series #cymbals I tried were too heavy and clangy, nothing like “the” tone; apparently Sabian changed the design after a couple years, heavier and with machine hammering. I finally found an early (around 1994) one that’s all hand worked, 2000 gm, and it sounds exactly like his records!
