Ráda se vracím k článkům Mileny Jesenské. I dnes jsou přehledné, lidské, ze života. Jesenská pozorně sledovala dění kolem sebe, mluvila s lidmi z celého společenského spektra, snažila se dostat hluboko pod povrch věcí a dějů. Dokázala srozumitelně sdělit, co a proč se děje, a předpovědět, jaké důsledky to bude mít.

...zazpívat před celou třídou píseň o míru. Rozklepou se mi kolena. Pomalu se šourám k tabuli. Nesmím to zvorat...
"Ať mír dál zůstává s touto krajinou...," spustím.
"No to snad nemyslíš vážně?" rozkřikne se učitelka. "Vrať se do lavice..."
Skloním hlavu a jdu si sednout. Proč se rozlobila? Přece jsem nezpívala falešně...
Ve 2.C mi některé věci ještě moc nedocházely. Ale s touto zkušeností přišel první tísnivý pocit nesvobody.
