I already had hacked the task->mesh chain to do some neat compute stuff. One of the important niceties being that you don't need explicit buffers and syncronization if you just want to pass some simple data from one pass to the next.
So this not only opens posibilities for certain algorithms to run better. But they simplify implementations, which I think might even be the most important factor.
