My therapist once told me, in regards to my relationship with my father:
“Like it or not, you have a relationship with your father. Everybody has a relationship with A father, even if they don’t have or ever had a father. Having a father is part of everyone’s psyche, therefore you have a relationship with a or your father. The only thing you need to do is define this relationship the best way it works for you. It doesn’t have to be ideal, it just needs to not jeopardize your life.”

This one is about my dad. Towards the end and within dementia the sweeping became a grounding purpose. At home and then at the Home, I would hand him a broom and he would set to. In the garden now he hands it on to me. ♥️

The biggest exception to that has been styling the hair of my daughter. If we don't braid it it's full of knots in no time and this has been something only my wife did.
Today I did French braids and the result reminded me that knowing what to do and being able to do it are two different things. It's good enough but I really need to practice more. #parenting #dad
