One of the best pieces of writing I’ve seen on Boards of Canada by Daniel Bromfield in Stereogum for the 10th anniversary of Tomorrow’s Harvest… (archive link to get past Stereogum’s craptastic volcano of ads) https://archive.ph/wc4Ce

Boards of Canada — Reach For the Dead from Tomorrow’s Harvest, released 10 years ago. Great video shot on film in the California desert by Neil Krug and David Myrick.

The b-side to the Aquarius single, Chinook, is one of those darker, rougher, early Boards of Canada songs that sometimes hits the spot. I particularly love the amazing footage this fan mated it with here:

Today’s Boards of Canada — cLOUDDEAD’s Dead Dogs Two remix (instrumental). Says Marcus: “I had a lot of fun doing that remix, because I was trying to figure out how many interesting, outlandish psychedelic sounds I could add to each verse.”

This evening’s Boards of Canada track… North Sea Arbeit taken from the Old Tunes Vol 2 tape. A simple plunky little tune.

I’ve been slacking in my #dailyBOC posting, but here’s Boards of Canada’s 5.9.78, off the A Few Old Tunes tape… a fan favorite hypnotic track…

Today’s Boards of Canada, Melissa Juice off their Twoism EP in the form of a lovely piano cover that just appeared on youtube.

I skipped another day in my daily Boards of Canada uploads because I’m a spazz and also addicted to the very active Bluesky… anyhow.
Here’s Echus, a beautiful very drone-y ambient track that comes from one of the live audience bootlegs. We know the title because Warp Records used a short clip of it in a documentary. The raw recording of this is a top holy grail for fans, we hope to someday hear it.

The only known piece of Boards of Canada’s 1989 record Acid Memories is this 26 second excerpt of the track Duffy

Okay, so I’ve missed another day of my daily Boards of Canada posting on here (blame Bluesky honeymoon)… so here’s a fun one — a collection of the small “web loops” that used to play on their website around the time of Geogaddi’s release.

Boards of Canada — Kiteracer 2 from the A Few Old Tunes Vol. 2 tape. One of my favorites of their unreleased stuff.

Computer debacle distracted me from posting my daily Boards of Canada yesterday, so today it’s one of my favorites: Slag Boom Van Loon’s Poppy Seed “Remix” (2001). I associate this track with window seats on plane trips.
Like many of BoC’s remixes, this one is basically 99% them. Sonically it expands on elements from their previous record (Music Has the Right to Children) into something more akin to the ABPOITC EP and Geogaddi sounds to come.

Today’s Boards of Canada — Julie and Candy from the 2002 album Geogaddi, but an early, pared-down version. Performed live in 2000 at a Warp Records party (uploaded by Marcus Eoin with the visuals used in the performance)

Today’s Boards of Canada (gonna keep posting a vid daily till they put out a new record) is Chinook off their 1996 self-released quasi-LP BoC Maxima. It’s got that dark, hard, crunchy edge that much mid-90s IDM and electronic music had—hits the spot (The version in this video came as the b-side to the Aquarius single).

My earworm today is this crunchy, short, nameless Boards of Canada banger from the mysterious “Random 35 Tracks Tape” leak of some of their early unreleased material — track B16

Boards of Canada’s “remixes” often depart a lot from their source material—enough so that most of them feel like crucial parts of the discography. Here’s a fave: Last Walk Around Mirror Lake by Boom Bip remixed by BoC.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Boards of Canada’s Music Has the Right to Children. Here’s track two, An Eagle in Your Mind. Hopefully we get something new from them soon…

One of my favorite Boards of Canada tracks of all time, Left Side Drive off the 2006 EP Trans Canada Highway. Soaks into every cell of my body.
