The score of Back To The Future is close to my favourite movie score. Well worth picking up the Intrada releases. #dailycd
Which music/sci-fi tv nerd from the 90s didn't have this CD? Mark Snow's X-Files soundtrack was hugely influential. #dailycd
Crime and Dissonance, a compilation of Ennio Morricone songs by Mike Patton. More of the experimental side, it's a fun listen. #dailycd
Did I only buy this because Mike Patton is on it singing the TMNT theme song? Yes... But also I loved the show as a kid, and the arcade game (thought I was terrible at it, and preferred Double Dragon or Simpsons). I was almost tempted to pick up the game, but I'm not really a gamer. #dailycd
Zebra was a recommendation from Classic Rock magazine (to which I used to subscribe). 70s prog-ish, Nirvana influence, they're truly excellent. Singer Randy Jackson spent most of 2020-2021 doing daily live streams if Zebra songs and random covers. They're still touring the US. #dailycd
Someone at work played me some Zeal & Ardor and I wasn't completely convinced but decided to listen a little more and fell in love. Saw them live in a tiny venue in early 2019 and they were incredible, and the Live In London CD captures their show very well. The first album suffers greatly from dodgy production, but the 2nd is ok. Their most recent is excellent, leaning harder into their metal side. Now close to being my favourite band. #dailycd
I'd not say I'm a fan of John Zorn, but really it's just I don't see the appeal of improved Sax gronk noises, but really, I actually love many of his compositions. I've picked up a few over the years, but there are 1000s. #dailycd
We saw Za! support Shonen Knife at Ding Song in early 2015 - they walked into the room already playing their instruments, and blew me away. Drums, sax, keys, loops. Absolutely bonkers. Does that live show translate to CD? Not really, but I keep buying their stuff to support them. #dailycd
Strong memories of a party in 1995 where a school friend called You Am I something dismissive - that I just can't remember now. He was talking specifically about Jewels and Bullets. My exposure to YAI mostly through Hottest 100 and Triple J. After that, I found I preferred Tim Rogers' solo stuff, but not enough to get any albums. In the last few years I've picked up some You Am I albums, inspired by the Sound As Ever Facebook group. #dailycd
YES were added to my collection first via Close To The Edge, as listed in a Best Of 70s Prog article. I then discovered Drama, and the incredible Into The Lens. Then the connection to Video Killed The Radio Star's The Buggles. Then finally 90125's Owner Of A Lonely Heart. Really fun band, I've unfortunately never seen live, though not convinced I have the patience for one of their shows. #dailycd
Yeah Yeah Yeahs are more my partner's jam, but I really like the occasional song. Was really looking forward to seeing them in 2022 but the shows were cancelled due to illness. #dailycd
The first CDs I bought were Master Of Puppets and Weird Al's Smells Like Nirvana. I later sold the Weird Al CD, I now only have this, Poodle Hat. I keep meaning to pick up the recent 3CD best of but am never quite enthused enough. I'm told the recent shows in Melbourne were fun. #dailycd
Very recent discovery and purchase - Xiu Xiu Plays The Music of Twin Peaks. #dailycd
It's fun to hate on Robbie Williams - and fair enough, but I quite enjoy him. I happened to see the Swing show on TV and recognised he had a pretty great voice, then got into his albums. It's silly, but it knows it. #dailycd
Rarely have I gone from "this is my favourite band" to "wow they can stop now please" faster than Chunky Chunky Air Guitar, except perhaps after Powderfinger's Odyssey #5. Adored The Whitlams, saw them in their prime, then again on their "we made an album of B-sides" tour, then stopped, because I stopped liking them. #dailycd
Everyone has their Weezer album where they stopped enjoying them. For most it's Pinkerton, for me it's Make Believe. There is a song or two on later albums but ultimately I've regretted buying anything after that. I still appreciate they're so prolific, even if it's not my thing any more. #dailycd
Ween are fantastic. Late discovering them properly, via my band's producer's obsession with White Pepper. Thankfully saw them live in 2008, though very much regret not going to both Melbourne shows - two nights of 30ish songs with no repeats. Saw Dean Ween Group as Ween without Gene in 2015 in NYC, top 5 best every gig. They're back together playing lots of shows, but no news of new music. #dailycd
We happened to see We Lost The Sea supporting Apocalyptica in 2016 and really enjoyed them. Have seen them 3 times again since and it's always an excellent show. Instrumental post-rock. I only have one CD but have the whole catalog from Bandcamp. #dailycd
It's strange how much I still like The Watchmen's Stereo. Great song. The album though. Meh. #dailycd
30+ years ago I picked up this Metalbound compilation, containing a few new songs each from recent metal albums. Through it I discovered Megadeth's Youthanasia, and WASP's epic song Chainsaw Charlie (Murders in the New Morgue). I only ended up getting the album in 2012, mostly for the bonus live versions. #dailycd
