Did a quick goth look that I didn't particularly like with some face paints. It could've been better but I didn't have the patience. I'm kinda sad I had to throw away my white foundation because it had expired. White face paint was not a good substitute. It still counts as a #dailyphotochallenge so at least I tried.

Kahukura on Kōwhai Tree
Kahukura are the New Zealand red admiral butterfly, another endemic insect. Like the yellow spotted dragonfly yesterday, it let me get up close and personal without batting an eyelid (or a wing).

I lay down on my back in the grass and pointed my camera up. The effect wasn't quite what I expected but I love how it's turned out - a close and personal portrait.

Misty Mountains
It's not accidental that Aotearoa/New Zealand was the setting for Middle Earth. We had an overcast day but the clouds started to dissipate as the sun set. This photo was taken just before I went to my local Camera Club - and about the time I had almost given up at finding a decent photo for today!

The Spring Garden
We have been working towards a transformation of lawn to garden on our acre-sized property. It was a wonderful moment to walk outside this morning and realise that it is looking like the garden I have visualised for so long.

Little Stranger
A tauhou (commonly called silvereye or waxeye due to the white ring marking around their eyes) feeding on a kōwhai flower. The Māori name, tauhou, means 'stranger' or 'new arrival'.

I didn't much feel like photographing today, so I was hoping I could get something decent through the window! This is a pretty serious crop of a larger image, but I like the way the tree in the background frames the subject.

Tall Poppy

The first few poppies have begun to emerge from the mass of foliage. I adore negative space and love the abstract, painterly look that my telephoto lens creates.

Always up for ideas to recycle
Tite joined the ranks

Shot with Yongnuo 50mm F1.8 lens on a Canon 70D. Lolo was the first ragdoll pincushion I made, he's kinda too stiff to be a proper pincushion so I retired him. I made a new one from the same outer fabric so they look like brothers, named this one Tite (pronounced Tee-teh). I had made a few others but they ended up as gifts to my niblings (sans pins).
