The first thing that I noticed was her dazzling damsel eyes

but heaven knows I’ve had a thing for freckles since age 5

her smile was up there too goodness knows it radiates

alas her brilliance shown like stars like diamonds in space

an outsider from realms unknown she came into my home

and left a mark upon my soul my heart my brain

Her throne.

Every day at 11:50, her
alarm goes off.
"Is your mind open, are you here now?"
asks the title

Today, as has not been seen in a
year, or three
The Answer is yes.
This eightfold path.

Which one do you take?

Some of you (none of you) may be wondering why some of my poems have numbered days on them.
Well this is why.
It was part of an attempt to do a poem a day. I thought I would get organised and create a series of prompts. That being the case, I wondered if any of you might find them helpful and fun.
So here they are.

Chai

On mornings like this
silent with my chai steaming
in the chill air,
I remember conversations in their imagined type styles;
heavy block sans serifs that made sure I would know
how men run
and hold their wrists in unwaveringly straight planes,
my name set apart
in light serifed italics
wherever I was called on to participate in physical education,
and
the unintentionally bold helvetics as she asked
why I didn't want her
like a husband should.

Font choice
conveys so much
of what one means to say.

Still, my chai is
sweet and spiced
in it's curling eastern script,
the sky is open in it's kerning,
and this morning
stands blank before me
ready to be filled.

The #dailypoem posted by @brianbilston today reminded me of Max Ehrmann's "Desiderata". In particular, I carry this line from the #poem very close to my heart:

"Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here."

I went to the backyard and snapped some photos. Thought I'd continue my photo challenge since my partner has been doing his after work while I've been sitting all day playing Pokemon. Anyway, thought I'd write a haiku this time for the accompanying poem. Included a cute pic of my cat, loved how the green was reflected in her eyes.

Density

I want
for a day
to speak the language of songbirds,
maybe on the branch of a cherry tree
hidden in the pink snow like blossoms,
a soliloquy about the joy of hollow bones in flight,
or perhaps
just outside the window
perched in a yaupon
flush with scarlet berries,
a lengthy sonnet to the sun
as it highlights the
way you ripple the bath
with your wings.
It's a small thing
to want,
I think,
just the one day
to wake
without the density of bones
and sing.

There are clean sheets
and people who love me.
There is a heart beating in my chest,
A brain working overtime to stay here in the present.
There is grief and anxiety.
There is fatigue and tedium.
Time moves strangely,
in fits and starts.
This moment
This day
These feelings
This ache that is both profound gratitude and immense dread...
It is all allowed.
It is all here to remind me that I am alive.
