It's amazing how practice alters your relationship with a skill. I used to be mildly stressed about the challenge when I started sketching.
It has become no less challenging, but nowadays when I need to chill working on a pencil portrait is a sure way to ease my mind.

Daily Sketchbook; Gestures; 60 seconds top; 120 second middle; Anatomy study 45 minutes more or less. The obvious thing to say about gorilla anatomy is that it's human anatomy arranged differently. But the differences in proportion, balance and gait, the way form follows function made me realize I need to make a lot more gesture and anatomy studies that could inform creature design.

fantasy race design stuff; In my mind i called them "Aldrueira" and i always imagined them as lizards. But eventually to avoid the cop out of #my_kobolds_are_different; They have slowly settled down into a mixture between apes, lizards and pangolins.
This also made me realize monkeys and gorillas have very distinctive gaits; I will have to do a lot of gestures of these animals before refining the design and making a proper reference sheet.

Daily sketches: werewolf date!
This one started as blobs of random brush strokes from me testing a tablet pressure sensitivity curve for this particular sets of brushes. And evolved into this. :blobcatgoogly:
I like these "dry and wet" brushes! I have always felt they are a little too unpredictable to use on commissioned work but i like the loosy goosy feel they have!

Daily sketchbook day 19, 17, 18; Creature design is so difficult for me: The idea was to make a sort of amphibious alien race, based on sea monsters like the loch ness monster; but i want to avoid making it look too dragon like. There's some giraffe, some axolotl, some, sea horse and otter in there. But it still needs a lot more work!
