After more than a little bit of math, measuring, math, poking Designaknit, cursing, ripping out and re-winding yarn, and some more math, I think I've successfully knit a sweater sleeve that will fit. I still have concerns that I'm going to run out of yarn before I run out of sweater, but we shall see.

Okay! Swatched the three yarns for a stripy sweater (machine knit, because I'm not sure I want to knit a whole fingering weight sweater by hand). I tried each one at both tensions 5 and 6, gave the whole thing a soak, and it's now artfully draped over the drying rack. When it's dry, I can assess the feel of each fabric and take measurements (and possibly pictures).
