Corruption was both at the highest level and even here in Sydenham. I had the honour of meeting his brother twenty years ago and tried to help the campaign. For that I was criticised by those who should have known better for bringing Sydenham into "disrepute". Today they should be hanging their heads in shame as part of the cover-up.

But I doubt they will.

The 36-year fight for justice by the family of the murdered private detective Daniel Morgan has finally ended with the Metropolitan police admitting liability for their errors and corruption, and paying damages. Mark Rowley said:

“I unequivocally and unreservedly apologise for the failure of the Metropolitan police service to bring those responsible for the murder of Daniel Morgan to justice."

Scotland Yard is reportedly to pay a £2m settlement after admitting that the investigation into the unsolved murder of a private detective more than 35 years ago was corrupt and incompetent.

Daniel Morgan was found dead in the car park of the Golden Lion pub in Sydenham, south London in March 1987 with an axe embedded in his head. No one has ever been convicted.

Time taken to tell murdered PI's family of documents is 'regrettable', Met says

In January 2023, documents relevant to the inquiry into his death were discovered in a locked cabinet in New Scotland Yard that had not been used for nine years, however, Mr Morgan’s family were not told until May 9, despite the Mayor’s Office finding out on April 24.
