I went to the Rossettis exhibition at Tate Britain on Wednesday and really enjoyed it. Obviously the paintings of #DanteGabrielRossetti took centre stage, but it was also the biggest display of works by #LizzieSiddal his wife in decades, and it mentioned the work of his siblings – quotes from Christina's poems were on some of the walls.
One that really struck me was In An Artist's Studio, about the artist showing the model 'Not as she is, but as she fills his dream'

'January' by Dante Gabriel Rossetti
For January I give you vests of skins,
And mighty fires in hall, and torches lit;
Chambers and happy beds with all things fit;
Smooth silken sheets, rough furry counterpanes....
'Lady Lilith' by Dante Gabriel Rossetti re-imagines a legendary femme fatale. In Jewish literature, Lilith is described as Adam’s first wife, and her character is underscored by lines from Goethe’s Faust attached by Rossetti to the original frame, “Beware . . . for she excels all women in the magic of her locks, and when she twines them round a young man’s neck, she will not ever set him free again.”
A Christmas Carol by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1874).
