Not the best movie I saw this year, probably not even Top 5, but easily the most pleasant surprise in 2022 Films was #DarbyandtheDead, which I just finished watching. I kinda feel like people are sleeping on this one.

I don't entirely get why #DoRevenge did better with critics than #DarbyandtheDead. They both feel pretty similar to me tbh: teen comedies about two girls who form an unlikely friendship in which one gives the other a popular-girl makeover.

(I liked 'em both, FWIW.)

#DarbyAndTheDead has nothing to do with Christmas but Auli'i Cravalho, Riele Downs, and Nicole Maines are STELLAR in this ghostly teenage romcom. CW: the bullying is out of control, though. short of bloody violence but weirdly barely apologized for.
