@markstos Ha ha, good find!
Nothing much has changed. Just lately I have been doing some cleanup and discussing ideas for closer integration with the official Darcs infrastructure. No more time spent analysing activity yet; for me sysadmin work like backup testing and a setup script for easier server upgrades/moves has been next priority but you ask a good question.
@simonmic iolaus was the project I really wanted to go somewhere:
https://github.com/droundy/iolaus
By the author of #darcs, with a darcs-like interface but using the Git data store.
I had hoped someone else would pick it up after he moved it, but that hasn't happened... yet.
@markstos @tess There's darcshub:
https://hub.darcs.net
Not github, but quite useful all the same
#darcs
@tess Darcs has a great UX compared to Git. I really struggled to learn Git after starting with that.
#Darcs can work for personal projects or small teams, but lacks a “GitHub”.
Linus considered it for the Linux kernel, but it doesn’t perform well enough on huge trees.
I used to be a contributor to Darcs I but now use Git exclusively because there’s no getting away from git. Once I mastered #Git it was simpler to just use one tool.
https://updown.io/bc6u is a status page for https://hub.darcs.net . I've increased the frequency from 5m to (temporarily) 15s to see if the (hourly ?) cron restarts are detectable.
Incidentally, I'm a happy https://updown.io customer, it's awesome.
Lots of #darcs toots I see ! 👍
After receiving some patches, I worked a little on https://hub.darcs.net tonight. It has been running basically maintenance free (touch wood) for years, which was my goal. It turns out I last compiled it with GHC 8.0 in 2018 (!)
The dev instance https://hub-dev.darcs.net is now back up, running latest code (30 new patches) and compiled with GHC 8.10.7. It uses the same repos and db as prod, so you should be able to use it for real work. Testing welcome!
A nice vid on commit based vs patch based VCSes:
@silmathoron I think you mistunderstand. I used #arch, #tla, #darcs, #mercurial, and #git before there was a #github. My goal is to move back towards the open, email-based workflow. You are right that #Sourcehut looks very positive along those lines.

@solarsailor You know how to pique my interest 🙂 I have indeed been using #git bundles over #NNCP for awhile. I spent some time with their comparison to Git. I am definitely interested in DVCS; I used #arch, #tla, #darcs, and #mercurial before #git, and git for a long while before #github. So I am not resistant to something new. But in reading about the #Fossil workflow on their site, I'm not sure it really lends itself to what I'm after, personally, though it is very interesting.

"#ForgeFed is an upcoming #federation protocol for enabling interoperability between #VersionControl services. Free alternatives (to #GitHub, #GitLab as example) exist but they do not solve the problem of centralization." #Git #Mercurial #Darcs

Hello brave souls :)
#Vervis now has follow buttons, and I'm almost done implementing unfollowing. Then I'll check how difficult it is to generate Push activities for #Darcs.
I'd like to work faster, dedicate more time to #ForgeFed ! I finally applied for some funding. If I'm lucky and get NLNet funding, I can do dedicated full-time work on ForgeFed for a whole year! If you have ideas for other such organizations that have relevant funding programs, please tell me :)
