Very Intense Tropical Cyclone

Darian will move more westward under the steering influence of the subtropical ridge to the south that is receding eastward. In 3 days, the cyclone will begin to round the subtropical ridge axis and track more southward.

Severe Tropical Cyclone #Darian (#05S) has intensified into a Category 4-equivalent tropical cyclone with winds of 115 knots (130 mph), making it the 2022-23 season's first major tropical cyclone in the Southern Hemisphere. Darian is not forecast to affect any land areas.

Severe Tropical Cyclone #Darian (#05S) in the far western portion of the Australian Western Region has become the first hurricane force TC in the Southern Hemisphere for the 2022-23 season.

Darian is forecast to take a looooong trek across the South Indian Ocean during the next week but not affect any land areas during that time.
