I suspect I'm going to have no real social media presence at all for the next couple of months.

I'm pretty thoroughly tapped out for energy working on the #DarkestDungeonII 1.0 release and what little I can spare is spent on keeping me sane right now.

I'm not on insane crunch or anything but I'm sinking *everything* I've got into this.

May 8th.

It's been heartening to see the responses to the Vestal release in #DarkestDungeonII. The team put a ton of work into her release and recalibrating the direction of a Hero formerly recognized as a two-button heal-bot (in a game where heals function much differently, to boot) in DD1 has been no small task.

It was a fun problem to solve and I'm proud of the end result.

It was also a great chance to take the Path system in an entirely different direction from previous entries.

Let's keep on the topic of champion names today.

The Foetor champion, GOAT of all time, takes its name from Black Phillip from The Witch (or THE VVITCH if you so prefer).

In addition, his King of All skill comes from a song the children sung in the same movie.

#DarkestDungeonII Next Fest Trivia Day 5!

It's a bit late again but I've got a quick story about Gander, champion doggo of the Den!

I spent a long time researching famous war dogs for inspiration and I've gotta tell you, they're almost universally terrible named.

And then I found Gander, the Black Beast; a massive Newfoundland dog that served in several skirmishes before dying in the act of carrying a live grenade away from pinned soldiers.

Helluva dog and the perfect homage name for DD2's Gander, Beast of the Battalion.

Though I had to cut "Beast of the Battalion" for being way too long for the GUI. XD

I'm going to make this one short and snappy because it's been a busy day and it's already laaaate.

The Librarian's "Burning Bright" skill, used whenever sufficient books are ashed, is named for -- you guessed it -- the third part of Fahrenheit 451.

You knew a reference to the book had to be *somewhere* in that fight, right? ;)

This feels extremely appropriate, given the Etrian Odyssey HD remaster that was just announced on the Nintendo Direct.

The Pillager Crackshot's "Front Mortar" skill was named after the Arbalist skill of the same name in Etrian Odyssey 3. I built my entire team to support that singular attack during my playthrough. XD

#DarkestDungeonII Next Fest Trivia Day 2!

When I began work on the Exemplar, I was asking myself "what makes for an apex Cultist?"

I had this faction that revolved around the worship of their betters, and ultimately settled on the core of his direction being "what if the top of the food chain was so powerful it simply worshipped itself?"

If you've ever fought him, all I'll say is: you're welcome and I'm not sorry.

Added, but fairly obvious, bonus trivia: his Prelude and Fall skills always execute in that order because "Prelude to the Fall".

For the duration of Steam Next Fest, I will endeavor to share one random tidbit from my time on #DarkestDungeonII; obviously nothing NDA-risky, but just random tidbits from my end of the work.

Next Fest Day 1

While working on the last round of Cultist additions to the game -- Herald, Altar, Exemplar -- I spent a lot of time reading interpretations of the end of days for inspiration.

This resulted in the Herald skill "First Trumpet", an AoE Bleed/Burn attack, in reference to this passage from the Book of Revelation: “The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth."

I decided to take the rest of 2022 off from the day job, which is to say that I'm still going to do a bunch of paper design work for #DarkestDungeonII but now it can happen entirely outside the confines of office hours, as inspiration strikes, and without interruption.

I'll probably play some video games too. :capy_coffee:​
