I've said that I don't catch insects from the wild for photographs, but this guy flew right into me, and would not get off.

I'm not able to identify it. I believe it's some kind of #darkling #beetle, but there are so many species under that name, that it's no better than pointing at a ball of fur and declaring "I believe that's a mammal."

Today was thinking about a campaign I was in a couple years back, with some of my best pals in the world. I wanted to share this fellow here, because I love him dearly, and miss playing him!

Name: Aphelion (birth-name Nova)
Race: Darkling Elder (homebbrew)
Class: Druid

After achieving Elder status, Nova became Aphelion, and was tasked by his clan of darklings to travel wide and far, seeing knowledge and resources, and to study the curse laid upon him and his people. In his travels, he was befriended by a roguish gnome named Tarquinn, and the two found common ground in their thirst for knowledge (especially the old, stinky, forbidden kind).

Though Aphelion had his own housing in the city, much of his time was spend at Tarquinn's family home, in a bed crammed into a room too small for it, in a home filled to the brim with Tarquinn's relatives, who treated Aphelion like family.

When the local god of dreams called upon a few of his employees to run some very specific tasks for them, Aphelion found himself amidst an entire group of new friends, who didn't look down upon him despite his darkling status. Instead, he made friends with the mysterious dragonborn and OTHER DRUID Ahda, the fantastically skilled monk Nehru, who was blind to all but the flow of magic, the stinky soulbinder Ch'mii and his odd familiar Ch'urii, and the very tall, very handsome, and very kind firbolg paladin named Sascha.

It was a great campaign, though cut short due to half of our party moving, and life cutting a cruel path through our plans. But Aphelion remains on of my favorite lads, and I think about him often. Fortunately, though the campaign halted, all of the friends involved still chat all the time, and we stream movies or play games together. I hope someday Aphelion can reach his goal and true potential, and return to his clan victorious with a cure for their curse in hand <3
