Although dark matter appears to dominate the mass of the Universe, astronomers still don't know what it is and haven't been able to study it in the lab. But its impact on the Universe can be mapped, thanks to gravitational lensing, where the mass of dark matter distorts the path taken by light that passes through it. A new team of researchers has mapped out regions of dark matter with unprecedented detail, down to a scale of 30,000 light-years. These fluctuations will allow astronomers to constrain its causes better.

#ESAEuclid has successfully completed its #commissioning. A collaborative effort of #ESA, the @ec_euclid, and industry partners established communication 📡, turned on and checked both instruments, focussed the #telescope 🔭, and tested spacecraft pointing 🛰️.
This is now complete, and the teams have moved on to "performance verification", observing science-like sequences and calibration images.
