Last one on the #Dartmoor theme for today. #DartmoorPonies roam wild on the #moor and are free to do so as they are a protected species. They will usually leave people alone but they will defend themselves by biting or kicking if provoked. It’s wise to keep a respectful distance from them.

Just saying hello to a couple of the Dartmoor ponies conservation grazing the local nature reserve near my house. They’re on loan to the council from the Natural England rangers at Yarner Wood.
The ponies eat off the grassland so that it doesn’t turn into brambles & scrub, maintaining the wildflower meadow, which in turn supports butterflies 🦋 .
