Mistletoe genome is diploid and BIG and sequenced #darwintreeoflife https://www.darwintreeoflife.org/news_item/2022-the-year-we-built-the-biggest-genome-in-britain-and-ireland/
Mark Blaxter from the #DarwinTreeOfLife project kicks off #ICG2023 discussing the development of this foundational toolkit that aims to sequence & assemble #genomes for all life on Earth to chromosomal level, transforming how we do biology.

We hope that the comparative genomics analyses made available through this study will provide a route towards the application of genomics-informed conservation programmes across the great diversity of invertebrate species. A big thank to all the amazing people from the Darwin Tree of Life Project that made this reserch possible! #biodiversity #conservation #comparativegenomics #PacBio #DarwinTreeofLife #Ensembl #emblebi #sangerinstitute #wellcometrust

European mistletoe has a #genome 30 times larger than the human genome... πΏ
In 2022 #DarwinTreeOfLife assembled this genomic giant, for publication in the new year
It was a marathon effortπ§¬πββοΈπ» http://ow.ly/NxZo50M72yA

(3/3) π§¬Did you know that European mistletoe (Viscum album) has a genome 30x the size of the human genome? Recently sequenced & assembled in the #DarwinTreeOfLife project, it is the largest genome of all species in Britain & Ireland.

@MarcusStensmyr @Hamid_hrg I *think* I sent him both species (memory is hazy) - but both are also with the #DarwinTreeOfLife project: https://tolqc.cog.sanger.ac.uk/darwin/insects/Lordiphosa_andalusiaca/ & https://tolqc.cog.sanger.ac.uk/darwin/insects/Lordiphosa_fenestrarum/ (HiC done. but not yet HiFi)

#BlobToolKit was designed to make colourful plots to help spot contaminants in fragmented genome assemblies. The latest chromosomal assemblies released by #DarwinTreeOfLife, were threatening to make the traditional blob plots redundant so #BlobToolKit now lets you look inside the blobs to see parameter distributions along each chromosome, e.g. to highlight the centromeric repeats. Try it out at https://blobtoolkit.genomehubs.org/view/ddAraThal4.1/dataset/CAKOER01/blob?plotShape=grid&length--Min=1840000&position--Active=true&xField=position&windowSize=0.01#Settings

Question for all.π
I've seen that #DarwinTreeOfLife project already have my interested species in there list of 70K genomes to assemble. I think that they already get PacBio data. However, I don't know how long it could take to release the ref genome (cod-like fish ~700mb Gsize). Does anyone has info ? Does it possible to flag up this species to them in order to slightly speed up the output of the assembly? π
