Dave zijn talent wordt ontdekt tijdens een talentenjacht in 1978 op zijn school, waar hij Johnny B Good van #ChuckBerry op drum brengt, en kreeg de bijnaam "David The Drummer".
Hij formeert een band #escape rond zich, en wanneer hij van school verandert vind hij ook een zanger. Ze noemen zich dan #Sabotage. De band stopt onder druk van zijn ouders.
Op zijn 16de ontmoet hij #KerryKing een gitarist. King stelt #JeffHanneman voor aan
