@murena just introduced some changes to their contacts app.

If you wish, all contacts from your webmail will now automatically synchronise with the contacts app on your phone. (Plus address suggestions)

For me, who often switches between devices this is big quality of life improvement:)

And the best thing: we got a button to refresh contacts and calendars, which makes managing your stuff with #DavX5 a lot easier:)

So I guess, the only solution is currently using #DAVx5. I found #SimpleCalendar on #fdroid.
My current setting does not fulfill my needs since its still using that crappy account stuff by android, which I tried to avoid. May its paranoid, since I am transparent like a clean window walking arround anyway.

Through a user initiated discovery process on the local network. Devices with #thunderbird can P2P and #DAVx5 could implement it too and synchronize system wide on android, for contacts and calendar apps.
All the components are there, right? The discovery, p2p and sync are the harder parts. This would be a great and very distinctive feature, for people to keep local control of their data and use and have it available where they need it.

Du brauchst selbst bei einer Installation eines Google-Androids kein Gmail-Konto nutzen. Eine kleine #Nextcloud-Instanz (bin zufrieden mit der von hosting.de-gemanagten) und die #DAVx5-App (Spende nicht vergessen ;-) ) und schon kriegt Google viele der persönlichen Daten, die sie zu Milliarden veredeln, nicht mehr.

Smartphones kaufe ich nur noch solche, auf denen ich ein #CustomROM installiert bekomme. Oder gleich ein #Fairphone4 aus dem Shop der e.foundation mit vorinstallierten #eOS und fünf Jahren Garantie.

Vor kurzem habe ich meine Kalender und Kontakte von Google auf meine Nextcloud umgezogen. Das klappt wirklich hervorragend, selbst mit den geteilten Familienkalendern. Auf dem Smartphone kann man die gewohnten Apps einfach weiter nutzen. Man benötigt lediglich eine Software wie DavX5, um die Kalender zu synchronisieren. Ich bin begeistert. 👍 #nextcloud #davx5 #ungoogle #privacy

#mailboxorg eingerichtet. Als Nächstes mal sehen, welche Apps ich zum syncen mit Android nutze. Für Kalender und Kontakte wird es #davx5 , Mails evtl. #Fairmail (#K9 soll unübersichtlich sein?). #Aquamail (closed source) hätte ich ja auch noch als Pro-Version.

@torspedia Regarding compatibility, I think as long as the server supports CalDAV you can use almost any app on any device. I heard that even Google Calendar supports CalDAV, so in principle if you only want to change the apps then you can keep using your account.
My calendar server is a #Nextcloud that I'm self-hosting on a VPS with #YunoHost. On Android I use the calendar app (#Etar) that I had pre-installed in LineageOS, with #DAVx5 from F-Droid. On the desktop I don't have anything (using the Nextcloud web UI from Firefox) but I would expect Thunderbird or your desktop environment's default calendar app to work fine.

And again. The only apps with access to contacts left are #davx5 and the phone app.

It kept it three days now. Before it deleted all of them again. WTF.
Also, as sync is off, the "detailed" log of davx5 stops at the second that i turned sync off. Iow, davx5 says it didnt do anything....

Je vois les taches sur le calendrier dans l'interface web, la date d'échéance est bien mise, je synchronise le tout avec DAVx5, j'ai le support VTODO et VJOURNAL sur ma collection, et je vois bien les taches dans toutes les apli de taches (jtx, task.org). Re-toot apprécier.

Ich nutze auch #davx5 in Kombi mit einer #Nextcloud und #Tasks.org (#Fdroid) unter #Android.

- Welche ToDo-App nutzt du genau?
- Hast du der ToDo-App alle Berechtigungen erteilt, z. B. Kalenderzugriff?
- Hast du in der Nextcloud einen Kalender nur für die Aufgaben oder ist es ein "gemischter" Kalender für Termine und Aufgaben?
- Hast du deinen Kalender in der Nextcloud irgendwann mal umbenannt? Dann müsstest du unter Davx einmal "Kalender neu erkennen" laufen lassen

Kennt sich hier jemand mit #DAVx5 und Sync mit ToDo-App (#Android) aus? Kann zwar von #Nextcloud zur App syncen, aber von der App zur Nextcloud nicht. Fehler: "Error updating CalDAV Task: Property [PRODID] must be specified once" ist mir kryptisch.
Unter iOS keine Probleme in beide Richtungen, nur bei Android.

And now I'm in the process of de-junkifying my Google Pixel. There's a shit-ton of Google stuff that comes pre-installed and cannot be uninstalled, only disabled. #DontBeEvil is dead.

And of course I'm re-installing everything from f-droid. #k9mail/#thunderbird, #FreeOTP, #DAVx5, #KeePassDX, #LibreTorrent, #Nextcloud, #OsmAndApp, #SimpleMobileTools suite, #OpenKeyChain, #Tusky. I also use #FFUpdater to get #Firefox, #Orbot (#tor proxy), and #TorBrowser installed/managed.

And then I'll have to worry about re-syncing #signalmessenger #signal app. I took a back-up, but... last time I did that it gave me headaches (that I eventually resolved at least).

Maybe I'll have all this done in a few more hours :P

Suffice it to say, I'm already missing #GrapheneOS and feel like mobile operating systems are stuck in the 1990s portal era of system and service design, always trying to "help" you and "hide" the details. What's old is new again, I guess.
