Looks like #dban isn't working good with modern systems anymore.
Can you recommend a software that does the same but *is* maintained and #wipes disks (including m.2) in a similar fashion? So we can avoid using vendor-specific tools (that might utilize e.g. ata erase command)?

I know there's problems on flash devices as they might not overwrite data on broken blocks, but that's not what I want to be fixed :)

I don't know what people use to secure wipe hard disk these days (maybe no one uses magnetic HDDs anymore?), but I just tried #DBAN, and had to go through all kinds of hoops to get it working on modern PC. Anyway this person's post saved my day.

Enable legacy boot, sure. But also DBAN 2.3.0 didn't work at all, and 2.2.8 crashed too, before adding that "acpi=off nousb". But after that it worked!

Zwei alte PC (32 bit / single core) scheitern am #ventoy USB Stick. Generell scheitern sie an so manchem Stick ... erkannt werden die, melden sich mit Namen im Bootmenü und lassen sich auswählen. Nach dem Druck auf Enter bootet dann aber doch die interne Platte.
Andere funktionieren dann doch. #Clonezilla Stick startete, auch #dban kam von einem anderen Stick klaglos.

Gibt es noch andere Programme als #dban für's sichere Löschen von Datenträgern?

Wenn nicht, wie lange braucht #dban ungefähr? Hab hier ein paar Sticks (1-16GB) und Festplatten (ca. 750GB-1,5TB), die gelöscht werden müssten.

Wenn ich das richtig verstehe, müsste ich alle Festplatten meines Rechners abklemmen 🤔
