I'm really surprised at how many of the people I follow get sucked into boosting these people. If I see a great post that uses somebody else's photograph it doesn't even get a like. Wish people just used links to original images ... it's easy. #dcma #copyright #photography

If you'd like to take part in your own micro-social network experiment (like we're trying at moss.haus), the EFF has a good primer on some of the legal responsibilities that could arise when hosting your own instance.
I, for one, had no idea about the DMCA agent requirement to qualify for copyright safe harbor protections. (Don't worry, it's only six bucks.)

We are hosted in Germany, so I believe that #DCMA does not apply to us.
Since we are still very small and not anticipating that this will become an issue any time soon, I'm not stressing about it too much.
Mostly I just want to make sure we are thinking about these things now and won't be caught unawares if any fuckery happens in those areas.

Es mach doch gar keinen Unterschied ob die takedown Nachricht an Microsoft oder an die "alten" Besitzer von GitHub gegangen wäre, beide hätten nach US Recht das repository vom Netz nehmen müssen.
