As he (a chap) had had a friendly private chat to another chap, Simon Case, about another chap wanting to give financial help to a chap (the PM), that any further embarrassing disclosures to mere MPs (many of whom aren't even chaps) was simply unnecessary, even though those MPs had a statutory role in investigating such matters. How low we have fallen, crony capitalism, crony Conservatism, crony government. He should resign as BBC Chair. parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/

parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/ Richard Sharp being questioned by DCMS Select Committee, re failure to disclose a relevant potential conflict of interest in his application to become BBC Chair. I've listened to a lot of these committee hearings but Mr Sharp is one of the most evasive witnesses I have heard (although he wasn't as bad as Nadine Dorries). A fascinating window into how Tory cronyism works to serve the needs of the Establishment. If you are a well connected chap, anything goes.

Great summary of the DCMS Sustainability of Local Journalism report here from Eliz Mizon - really interesting to read about The Bristol Cable's specific involvement and takeaways as well.

Heads up for anyone interested: the DCMS committee on institutional racism in cricket will start shortly, and can be watched at parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/

Well, it should've started a few minutes ago, but you know how these things go.

I'm sure it'll be available to watch afterwards, although I don't know exactly where.

Further WMS laid last night by setting out likely next steps re the recommittal of the new clauses to the Public Bill Committee and tabling the "indicative drafting" of amendments that the Committee will scrutinise, after Report stage on the original Bill completes.

Pretty bullish statement of intent, given where we are in this five-year long process: "These amendments are substantively final & the policies that they reflect will not change". 😬

press release this morning: gov.uk/government/news/new-pro

this lunchtime: questions-statements.parliamen

Latter at least sets out which amendments are coming when - a lot behind held over until the Bill is in the Lords - and confirms that the Bill will now go back to the Public Bill Committee in the Commons beforehand.

@CatherineFlick You are probably aware of this, but just in case ... is holding an inquiry into the 'benefits' of and is now accepting evidence here committees.parliament.uk/work/ You should definitely let them know what you think.
