The slides from my #DDDnorth presentation are now available on request.
"The Universal Problem Solving Technique"
They are copyrighted so they are not being published online. You can use them for personal and educational purposes without restriction.
The doc includes a lot of (but not all of) my spoken dialogue.
I want to collaborate with commercial ventures and agree to their use of the material.
email me team@secretsofsuccess.co.uk for a copy of the slides.
have had a truly fab day at #dddnorth
one of the best conferences I've been to in a long time
the team of organisers and volunteers has been first class
the eclectic mix of novice and experienced speakers was marvellous, and the breadth of discussion ideal!
thanks to all
really enjoyed my chat with lots of folks after my #dddnorth session - such a welcoming crowd, and they all smiled in the right places and laughed in the right places - so the humour went down well - I hope the serious dialogue hit the right chord too
nice! #dddnorth a pic of one pain-au-chocolat and one strawberry, accompanied by a nice mug of black tea
this is the screen (if you can find it) for air flow in the accursed aforementioned brand new Merc
really bad UX
the car is fitted with a mouse which gives you no access to this screen and no interaction with it
the car is so bad, I will get more photos later and write a blogpost
#DDDNorth and no handbrake - London drivers *need* a handbrake
(this is why merc drivers waiting at a red light never lift their foot off the brake pedal)
end of rant!
oh, and I could not find the odometer (setting) so I don't know my start and end mileage
so much tech and money in that car and it is ridiculously unuasable
got the cruise to work most of the time, but could not figure out how I managed to sometimes set/unset the speed limiter instead
my old (recent model) BMW was never this troubling, but then again I had various B'mers over 20 years
4/N the M18 between Donnie and Goole is closed so I went via Scunthorpe and Humber Bridge
even on the approach to the bridge the sat nav was telling me to go back via the M18 Goole route - nearly 10 times as long as crossing the Humber
3/N the air/heating system requires a Computer Science degree to operate - constant touch screening to get air to screen and feet etc
whoever did the usability testing needs to start that again
1/N finally got to pick up the hire car, later than planned, due to reasons!
asked for an upgrade because I wanted cruise control (late departure, long drive, etc), was offered a Merc CLK for silly money, and finally agreed marginally less than silly money
auto, air con, cruise etc
auto everything actually . . .
This is such a banging lineup.
Guess I should grab a ticket right? :)

So many great speakers at #DDDNorth this Saturday... still time to register and see them! https://bit.ly/DDDNorth22
good morning
some errands today, though mainly here at my desk
will be out on Thursday and Friday ahead of #DDDnorth on Saturday
I spent a couple of hours working on my talk this morning.
And a couple of hours practising it, and refining it, this evening.
Last month, it was too long for the 30 min slot at Barcamp Cant, so it ended up a bit mangled.
It is now 45 mins of dialogue (timed to perfection) plus 10 mins for a Q&A.
It also features new material "Eric the Hero".
Hopefully 45 + 10 mins suits the one hour slot I have at #DDDnorth next Saturday.
The Universal Problem Solving Technique
I'll be doing the one hour version in Hull at #DDDnorth next week
