Okay, soooo I setup #Proxmox at home and started tinkering. I spun up a #YunoHost #VM and before opening up any ports thought of security. Last time I setup a home server was in the late 90s, and it got hacked. So doing some due diligence.

I setup my #ddwrt router to use https, and configured it to update IP changes to #Cloudflare. Working fine, but now...

How would I go about updating multiple hosted domains? Proxy? I hope to have several there.

(為安全我是用有IPv4的$3.50

@thomasf I had #ddWRT flashed on a Netgear Nighthawk before I got gigabit fiber, and it worked really well. Never tried #OpenWRT

I've only really booted #pfSense, but I hear that they started some community drama with #OPNSense and that's putting some people off.

I'll go with whichever has more tutorials online I reckon.

My DDWRT router may be the issue; it's seen some shit, lived in boxes, and its antennas aren't as plucky as they used to be. But it is my baby and I love it.

It could also be the latest DDWRT build; I just don't know enough yet about routing tech to do meaningful full testing--especially since #DDWRT wears so many hats--so I usually read all the comments on a new build related to my model to see what's been found so far and assume when I have problems its my fault.

#annoyed I reflashed my router from an old Kong build of DD-WRT to a current beta of straight DD-WRT and for some reason the #Bitwarden program on my Mac can't communicate properly now to my #raspberrypi hosting #vaultwarden behind #nginxproxymanager also on the same Pi which is handling the SSL connection.

I can't seem to figure out what I did wrong or what I need to add in to route it properly. Sigh.

Sometimes I suspect the reason I decided to start a networking degree was to finally be able to properly configure my #DDWRT router.

So apparently my main ISP (Charter Cable) was down for like two days last week, but I never noticed because my ASUS router switched over to my LTE modem. #DDWRT is great.

#introduction I'm a self-taught #linux fanatic who just really loves playing with distros. I experiment with #DDWRT and @OpenWRT, my favorite language is python but java may actually beat it, and I write how-to guides for people who aren't familiar with tech so they can learn how to use it. My five year plan is to graduate and work on #opensource to make it easy for people to use.

I also have five (5) rabbits who hate me but I feed them anyway.

@localish I probably wouldn't buy a hotspot like that (Cloudflare patron or not). I would prefer to buy a hackable router (#ddwrt or #openwrt) w/a USB port & GSM modem. Then I would install a Tor gateway on the router so that all wifi traffic would automatically be routed over the Tor network.

Does anyone know a decent open router firmware with reasonable security/updates that lets you see what devices are currently using data?

I'm currently using OpenWRT, which I like, but it only seems to give updates very infrequently, and it seems impossible to tell whats currently connected beyond the DHCP leases.

I learn something with #ddwrt, you can dump the firmware trough ssh with "ssh ddwrt cat /dev/mtd/1 > dump.bin"
And you can reflash-it through the gui.

@gbdfsociety I have used #asus routers for years. I find that #asus #merlin is a better system when compared to #openwrt or #ddwrt. Have s look at #asus #merlin. I use it to run VPN also. It just works.
