Being an avid #Theatre goer I have been a #Stagetext ambassador for many years. Stagetext provide #Captioning #Accessibility for the #Deaf and #HardOfHearing with both theatre and talks all across the UK. They provide an invaluable service and yet a lot of the #DeafCommunity are unaware of them.

#Adamorobe , a #village in the #WestAfrican nation of #Ghana is known as the ‘#DeafCommunity ’ due to a high incidence of a #hereditary form of #deafness. The community has found an #innovative way to normalize their #HereditaryCondition by #developing their own #SignLanguage which has been adopted by both the #deaf # hearing people in the village. This is quite different from the formal standard sign language used in the school of the deaf.

One thing I’ve begun to appreciate with my new hearing aids, now that I’m wearing them all the time (rather than sporadically like I used to) is the blissful silence when I take them out at night. A superpower I never knew I had, or needed! #deafCommunity #deaf #hearingLoss
