Had a great videocall with a researcher in France today. Chatted about #DeafEd in France, the US, her work, and my #dissertation. #DeafMultilingualLearners came up and I could say, "Oh, I can send you a chapter about that!" Hopefully, we can collab on something.

Fury rising.

This isn't new, but allow me to reiterate: 1) No, learning #SignLanguage does not impede spoken language. 2) Depriving people of an accessible language causes harm. 3) #Deaf people must be "in the room where it happens" where "it" concerns deaf people.

The research is crystal clear on this - how is this framed as a debate?

Many #Deaf leaders tell me they fear discussing #racism “too much” in #DeafEd and that it takes away from concerns about audism and Deaf children.

The truth is that we can’t address audism as a Deaf community until we address racism within the Deaf community. Sidestepping the issue will only divide us as a community.

Have #DeafEd people made it here? Judging by the dearth of ... toots with that hashtag I'm guessing not.
