i want a font or some device that explicitely does NOT support anything outside of latin-1, or even better, would mark those characters specially so i could spot homomorphic attacks easily #dearlazyweb #ktxbye
#dearlazyweb, I'm looking for #solarpunk podcasts. I've been listening to a lot of "It Could Happen Here" which is great, but I need something more hopeful.
The Revolutionary's Garden is a nice example. Whenever Andrewism is on "It Could Happen Here" it definitely feels a lot more light. What other suggestions do you have?
#dearlazyweb, does anyone have recommendations on #SolarPunk games? I'm interested in both video games (that run on Linux, especially indie games) and board games.
I'm realizing that right now I'm pretty constrained in what I can actually do. I have all kinds of cool ideas but I can't actually realize any of them because I'm just doing too much, so I'm looking for an easier outlet until I have more capacity.
Hitler had a painting of Henry Ford in his office. The Nazis created Volkswagen because they wanted everyone to drive. The Nazis created the Autobahn. Nazis stole half the bikes in the Netherlands because people on bikes are harder to control than people in cars.
There's some connection between Nazis and cars that I feel like I can sort of see the shape of but I can't quite put together.
#dearlazyweb, Anyone know more about this? Is there any academic papers or books that talk about this connection?
#dearlazyweb what do people advise their fellow novice desktop linux to use for backups? borg/restic/etc does not qualify, unless it has a solid GUI
#dearlazyweb i wonder if the attack surface is at least somewhat reduced by using SD cards instead of USB thumb drives... surely SD cards can't suddenly become a keyboard or a network interface, right?
this is one of those #dearlazyweb posts and i full expect people here to come up with novel and original variations to the magic one-liner I ended up with. bonus points for simple-looking things without external dependencies (e.g. if you have JSON in your pipeline you lost)
So, just plugging myself into the hive-mind. I’ve Redis and FastAPI (Python), an insane number of nodes and edges in a graph, and a single node as starting point from which I want to discover all nodes and edges, and store every node-edge-node exactly once.
My question: what is this problem called, because my Google-fu is coming up with things that aren’t it?

i'm building a remote #vpn #kvm server to access to the HTTP OOB management on remote servers but also provide #PXE boot for rescue, any recommendation on hardware? i have a beagleboard here i'm prototyping with, but it's old... i'm looking for a small device that doesn't take up rack space, minimal power, ideally with a 3g modem and 3-4 rj45 ports #dearlazyweb
Oof. That's unfortunate @fosstodon 's English-only policy, while understandable does restrict Mastodon as a platform for "being yourself" publicly. In many senses that hurts inclusivity.
How do people "fix" it? Having multiple Mastodon personalities? How do we preserve the unity of those personas?
It seems like it would be okay to cross-boost as an origin server would be tasked with the moderation? #dtv #dearlazyweb #mastodon #moderation

Does the concept of dividing technology in "freestanding" vs. "integrated" ring bells for anyone?
I'm trying to track this down. Thought that #UsulaMFranklin might have been a source, but her Massey Lectures text doesn't include the terms AFAICT.

#dearlazyweb where's my cute little dashboard where i can see the growing curves of users flocking away and #quittwitter? i know about https://fediverse.party/en/mastodon/ but it doesn't have history
I'm looking for tools to create / edit ePub documents, preferably directly from URLs and employing the Readability library.
The ability to append to a given document would be quite useful --- additional web pages should be treated as chapters.
Best options would be Linux (Termux/Android) or Android applications or tools.
What's out there?
I am of course familiar with #Pandoc which addresses HTML->ePub conversion, but not the Readability library element, or editing the generated pubs.

@mewmew Oh, crap. Right. I should have tagged this with #DearLazyweb, thanks.
Thinking of replacing my old Linksys WiFi router with a 'generic' TP-Link Mesh-Network WiFi router.
Good idea or bad idea?

Is there a band in the #Riverdale TV series? Besides the Archies or Josie and the Pussycats?
I just discovered #TheVeronicas which are a real band, but I thought they were fictional from the show! Is there any basis for my confusion?
