This is a 97.5kW transmitter which originally marked the beginning of what is now known as Capital FM, one of UK's most significant #radio networks.

Prompted by @RW Observer on Twente #WebSDR chat, I checked BBC WS morning transmissions to Middle East via A'Seela🇴🇲: 03-04z 12095, 13580 kHz; 04-05z 13580, 15310 kHz. Strangely, they're registered in HFCC as starting July 10 o.O but I don't think they were replacing anything...

... yet, NONE of them is present on Twente SDR fullday display as of today ❗

All three freqs were in place yesterday, and, for a matter of fact, on July 9.

BBC Kranji is still alive for now - hearing it on 7465 kHz, although very poorly - horrendous naZi ruZZian 29B6 Container #OTHR (over-the-horizon radar) is spewing out buzz on it, and Chinese #jamming is raging on w/ several waveforms at once.

Also, there are no replacements for BBC English to Middle East @ 1500-1900z on 12025 kHz. This one offered hours of quality content w/ good signal even across Europe - and will end on July 16.

Even stranger is putting Dari & Pashto 17-19z to 6195 kHz, which is already busy w/ another English to ME (and Europe) from Oman!

There's no effort of solving this collision visible in HFCC db yet... so it may be gone too.

This leaves just 2h early in the morning (03-05z)...

BBC Kranji #shortwave relay station will CLOSE this Sunday July 16th, 2023 ❗

Not sure which service would be the last to air; if the morning ones to Asia @ 22-24z on 3915, 6195 & 7465 kHz will be able to make it, or would it be final ones of the day local time, like 15-19z on 12025 and one in Dari & Pashto @ 17-19z on 11735 kHz.

Anyway, it'll be a huge loss, esp. with a threat of a war looming upon Taiwan. Fortunately some (but SOME!) txions are moving to Oman, Tashkent etc.

LOTS of #mediumwave closures to happen in the coming days in UK❗

Gold will cease broadcasting from 4 of its 6 transmitters:
945 kHz Derby
999 kHz Nottingham
1332 kHz Peterborough
1557 kHz Northampton

which will leave just Manchester on 1458 & London on 1548 kHz.

Additionally, Smooth Radio Essex announces shutdown on 1431 kHz. 1359 Chelmsford licence also runs out so it may close too.

BBC Radio 4 begins a campaign to transition from #longwave to other platforms & channels❗

They're starting with discontinuing splitting schedules between LW & elsewhere in March 2024, and, undoubtedly, the goal is to SWITCH-OFF 198 kHz (& #mediumwave relays) completely at some point in future.

Good grief they mention some "HM Coastguard channels" interested folks could get Shipping Forecast from, when BBC would have it 2-3 times a day instead of 4 😆

This rather strange blog reposting a wild mix of news https://europe-cities.com/2022/03/06/last-high-power-medium-wave-transmitter-in-the-netherlands-is-struggling-with-storage/ reported their Den Haag/Leidschenveen transmitter suffered storm damage in March 2022, after which it ran @ reduced power (ex-1kW). Looks like they eventually gave up, having a secure place on DAB+ 😞

Very late it is but better late than never... just noticed the take-down of the RUV #longwave mast at Eidar (former 207 kHz) had made it to Euronews' No Comment 😮

Again, this mast was taken down just TWO DAYS after regular programming was suddenly stopped on the afternoon of Feb 27!

Well... I don't know what to think about it...

KDWN did go full-power just before 0750z/11:50pm PST, did do a proper send-off w/ a song about Nevada, National Anthem, and even some SSTV & CW... and then they returned to normal programming @ 0810z/00:10am PST, reducing power back to whatever they use at night a few minutes later... And after 1100z/03:00am PST THEY ARE STILL ON THE AIR ON 720 AM!!!
