So, I just did a thing. I deactivated my twitter account and deleted my twitter app from my phone. I was holding on to it "just in case". But decided to purge it once and for all. It feels good. I like it here!

I have noticed that recently #debirdify says the mastodon.social and mastodon.online instances run by @Gargron are now in the #USA instead of #Germany and I don't not like the sound of this, but I don't know what it means?

I liked Germany because, as far as I know, Germany has much stronger privacy protections than the USA.

@pruvisto What is your current plan with #debirdify? Would you keep hosting it if the read scopes are put behind a paywall after February 9?

I just now finally got around to migrating my #follows, #followers, and #lists from #Twitter to #Mastodon. It was super easy, and the feeling of #liberation is palpable.

I used #Debirdify (https://debirdify.pruvisto.org/), and I highly recommend it. You simply login on Debirdify with your #birdsite account, select which lists of people you want to migrate, export them as one or more #CSV files, and then import those files in your Mastodon preferences under "Import and export."

Note: The #API that Debirdify uses to export your data for you will be shut off on Thursday, February 9th, and #SpaceKaren might cut it off even sooner than that if he feels like it, so if you've been #procrastinating on this (like I was), get on it immediately!

As an experiment I thought I’d use #debirdify to see how many of the accounts I’d blocked on Twitter were on Mastodon (not that I’m about to give them a second chance). Turns out I’d blocked 519 and only 5 had accounts in the Fediverse that it could find.

I’d say that’s a pretty good endorsement of my decision to move. 🐘
