I complain, but will grudgingly admit that if the latest round of the #DebtCeilingComedy ends with the debt ceiling raised, the same budget we would have gotten without it but sooner because time pressure, and the GOP Speaker of the House turfed out by the snake eaters, then that’s still a win for the Biden team. Of course, I’d prefer the debt ceiling were neutralized by #MintTheCoin but I’m not insane. I’ll take the win, if we can get it.

https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/biden-debt-ceiling-default-options-rcna85796 Yet another frustrating splainer. Behold as it explains how Biden is totally in control, he can #MintTheCoin at his convenience, end the #DebtCeilingComedy unilaterally and leave the GOP gasping for air with egg on its collective face. But that obviously won’t happen for reasons that are left totally unexplained. It’s a goddamn mystery for the ages. Even asking why this is happening is unthinkable.
#MintTheCoin #debtceilingcomedy
There is simply no way you get could get enough votes for this “permitting reform” shit from the Democratic caucus any other way than to contrive a fake crisis like the #DebtCeilingComedy so that those 100 or so Democrats who want to vote for it to appease their wealthy donors can wring their hands in public and say they how much they hated having to vote for it but the crisis, you see, was too important and it was the only way to avoid a bigger disaster. It’s fucking bullshit, and people should not stand for it.
Here are the Nice Polite Republicans to answer your questions about the #DebtCeilingComedy.

Notice how the finally mention in the last paragraph that “other less popular proposals include [#MintTheCoin]” which is otherwise left unexplained.
Because explaining it would clearly demonstrate just how stupid are all of the preceding answers they just finished excreting.

https://www.businessinsider.com/senate-democrats-push-14th-amendment-solve-debt-ceiling-biden-gop-2023-5 All these assholes know the problem with “using the 14th amendment” in the #DebtCeilingComedy is that a Supreme Court packed with FedSoc clowns will rule against, handing the GOP grounds for an impeachment trial. Just #MintTheCoin and you don’t even have to worry about the courts. The *only* “problem” with the Coin is that it takes away the shiny toy from everyone, including the Democrats who find it useful.
#debtceilingcomedy #MintTheCoin
Dudes like Bob Reich fully and completely understand why the #DebtCeilingComedy is nothing more to Democrats than a convenient way blame the need to find a compromise with the GOP for all the unpopular and corrupt things they also want to do themselves. The President can #MintTheCoin today, and the debt ceiling would be irrelevant. And dudes like Bob Reich will never in a million years talk about that.

Livid with rage about the #DebtCeilingComedy. Outsourcing my opinion to The Mighty Atrios today. https://www.eschatonblog.com/2023/05/debt-ceiling.html Reminder that any discussion of the issue that does not observe how a default is only possible if President Biden chooses not to #MintTheCoin is a fundamentally deceitful and corrupt discussion.

https://www.eschatonblog.com/2023/05/bidens-gang-too.html I’m with Atrios on the #DebtCeilingComedy and my frustration level is pretty high too.
Oh you might be asking, but sure Janx Devil, I get why it’s good that the White House is holding out for a “clean” bill from the GOP Congress in the #DebtCeilingComedy, but WHAT ABOUT THE OPTICS? How long can Biden continue to refuse to negotiate with the GOP while sustaining a re-election campaign?
This is not hard to manage.
Biden should simply say, “Look, nobody should worry that I’m gonna let the government stop paying its bills. We’re gonna pay all the bills that come due. But if the Congress won’t let us borrow any more from Wall Street to pay our bills, that’s up to them. We can deal with it using the U.S. Mint. Now Wall Street may not like that much, but Main Street expects its bills to be paid, and that’s what will happen. Whether the GOP wants it or not.”
That’s what you say.
The ongoing #DebtCeilingComedy proceeds. It would be nice if more with power and influence over media coverage understood the basic mechanics of how the government pays its bills and who has the power to default on them. The fact is the House GOP has no actual leverage. It’s not the case that the President needs their cooperation to avoid default. It’s the reverse: the House GOP needs the President to cooperate if they want the government to refuse to pay its bills. And the President is correct to tell them to fuck right off on that point.
The #DebtCeilingComedy continues to devolve into a complete circus, but I’m too busy hacking at bandits with a laser sword to rant about it, so consider yourself spared.
@froomkin Gonna keep repeating it until it gets traction. Deciding not to raise the debt ceiling won’t force a default. President Biden has at least three ways to avoid default that don’t require a single GOP vote. If the US defaults on its debt, then it will 100% be a voluntary act by the President, not the Congress. Biden and his staff are neither stupid nor crazy enough to default on the debt in the event the GOP refuses to raise the debt ceiling. So can we all just settle down and stop feeding the GOP trolls? #DebtCeilingComedy

Gods, this headline… ugh. Look: there’s no bomb. They have a pop-gun. If they actually pull the trigger, then a little flag pops out that says “Boom!” with animated hearts flying away from it.
One might guess the reason they don’t want to pull the trigger is because it will reveal the absurdity of the situation. Sadly, I doubt any of them are smart enough to understand any of that. They’ll be as shocked as everyone else when the bang results in nothing but giggles.
A similar failure mode is at work in the #DebtCeilingComedy. The thing *there* is that you don’t actually need the House to raise the debt ceiling. You don’t even need the full Congress to pass anything at all. The President already has the power to Mint The Coin, which makes the whole debt ceiling “crisis” disappear forever in a puff of harmless fiat. And yet… YET… here you have Democrats today insisting the President instead start offering concessions to the House terrorist caucus in exchange for *not* making the crisis go away. You have to ask WhY ThO? Why.
https://www.axios.com/2023/04/20/democrats-biden-debt-ceiling-negotiate #DebtCeilingComedy Right on schedule. Everybody involved in this knows the debt ceiling standoff is the opposite of a crisis.
Both the GOP and the Democrats would like you to believe that the House of Representatives have taken the world economy captive and they are threatening to shoot the hostages unless the majority capitulates and lets them have their minority rule victory.
But p1. the gun isn’t loaded, and p2. the hostages are all mannequins. And yet, here we are with Democrats ready to pretend that negotiating with these GOP terrorists is the only way to resolve the standoff.
And it’s all a complete snow job. They won’t shoot the hostages. There are no hostages to shoot. Stop pretending and the “crisis” ends.
Starting to look like I’m gonna be ranting about the fake looming crisis around the debt ceiling soon. You should probably put #DebtCeilingComedy into your blocked hashtags now.
