Element X iOS and Android nightlies have started to integrate the Matrix Rich Text Editor, github.com/matrix-org/matrix-r.

It’s a rich text editor (WYSIWYG) written in Rust with bindings for Swift, Kotlin and JavaScript.

I’ve personally improved WebAssembly support and Markdown support, github.com/matrix-org/matrix-r. Notably this fun patch that has reduced the Wasm module size by 76%, github.com/matrix-org/matrix-r 😜.

Element X iOS nightly has a new way to render the Timeline. It is impressively fast, with smooth animations, less code and less bugs. What else :-)?

Patch in Element X iOS, github.com/vector-im/element-x.

The `Timeline` is an API of `matrix_sdk_ui`, github.com/matrix-org/matrix-r.

Element X will support dehydrated device (MSC3814).

Path in the Matrix Rust SDK, github.com/matrix-org/matrix-r.

MSC, github.com/uhoreg/matrix-doc/b.

Do you delete your devices often, like everyday? Dehydrated devices allow to keep receiving encrypted messages in a decentralised network with virtual devices.

Fediverse appears to be replicating the worst elements of now, including enabling and empowering the .

It seems to be just replicating the worst elements of the systems, just in a way.

We suspect that the way to get to the heart of this issue is to ''. Where is money pouring into fedi and why? Why has Mastodon not taken long-time software thieves to task, but jumped on others?

Hear hear. I think 'evil' is perhaps a step on the road to hyperbole, but if we might stick to the (OK, only marginally more objective) of , the users externalise their costs, unless they're making it worth the provider's expense. (Thanks @ColinTheMathmo !)

I'd love to know if it was possible to throw context dependent up alongside a instance to fund its operation, as I don't think most users are ready to pay for social media, but I wouldn't wish to fund it by mining their data and selling it.

Things are happening in decentralised internet land.

Anyone can run multiple nodes on a single device as part of an autonomous network, which means no gatekeepers, surveillance or censorship.

With a simple client app you can:
- store and retrieve files
- send and receive offline payments using Digital Bearer Certificates which can be validated by the network.

That's digital cash without a blockchain, which means very fast & energy efficient.

This slow, rainy Saturday morning accidentally brought something pretty cool alive — a URL Shortener that defends against link rot using @ipfs 's new _redirects feature.

Bonus points: you can make new shortlinks with a val.town API!

Anybody try search engines like yacy? I noticed presearch was a bit “run nodes for us” or something. I was wondering if there was something that was truly decentralized p2p searching.

How to Kill a Network (such as the Fediverse)

For an example of the major benefits that and non-commercial projects have over commercial and centralised ones, look no further than this article:
wired.com/story/tiktok-platfor

This extends to and too. Open source projects don't have a profit motive, they don't sabotage their own usefulness for money, and they have much better prospects for long lifespans. The worst that can happen is that the community implodes for some reason, at which point they split up and continue on separate paths (or forks as the case may be).

Long story short, use fediverse technologies for social stuff, use open source for technical stuff, don't feed the juggernauts your money or clicks, cause they don't care anyway.

**Project Liberty Pop-Up: Generative AI and the Commons
Online: Thursday 15 June 2023: 12:00–1:00pm ET**
**To RSVP, email Joe.Tropeano@projectliberty.io**

<!quote>
**AI AI AI!** I’m sure you’ve been hearing about — and probably also thinking about — artificial intelligence recently. What does AI mean for the commons — the knowledge and culture we all share? 🤖🤖🤖

Join Creative Commons team members this Thursday for an online pop-up conversation hosted by Project Liberty on Generative AI and The Commons.

Creative Commons has long worked to ensure that copyright doesn’t overreach when it comes to training AI or use of AI’s outputs. Given recent litigation around generative AI, the debate is reaching a critical moment — both to defend copyright’s limits, but also promote responsible development and use of AI in ways that address concerns from creators and others.

Our hope is to help create practical solutions that both grow the commons and support better sharing of creative content to address issues around consent, credit, compensation, and beyond. Join us for a brief overview of the themes we see emerging so far, and an interactive discussion about AI and the commons.

Just found out about , the counterpart of . There is a community, but sadly no recent activity. Perhaps, with the and other bullshit on Reddit lately, it'll be resurrected. That'd be cool!

This is the instance: lemmy.ml/c/kpop
I have nothing to do with it, only started using Lemmy today. But I figured people here probably like both Kpop & decentralisated SNS, so it may be the best place to mention it in hope of new activity.
