Why? Because Nilay Patel technically said that sentence on his own show.
"Well he intended it as critique and didn't mean it!" Yeah I know! But content policies dont have the luxury of knowing intent when these situations happen thousands, or millions of times a day.
Case in point hate speech is about context not just the speech. And context is tough to codify.
To be clear, Best waivering on this issue was dumb. But also I wish there could be more nuanced inquiry about the nature of moderation.
