“The future of degrowth: Decolonizing more than the imaginary” by Dr. Brototi Roy (Central European University, Vienna)

In recent years, degrowth has sparked multiple discussions, analyses and actions on repoliticizing the debate for socio-ecological justice and equity. Since the beginning of the movement as an activist slogan, there have been calls for decolonizing the imaginary. In this talk, Dr. Roy will engage with the idea of how can this decolonization be more material.

Really interesting wee video (in English) about #decolonisation in the #Russian context - she's a mixed heritage woman who's moved to #Azerbaijan as an ethnic minority and is talking about the need for decolonisation in that context.

Now - I'm UK-based and UK has it's own problem with having the largest hand in creating the need for decolonisation. Take that as a pinch of salt if you need.

For me it's interesting in that I hadn't considered that Russia, in invading Ukraine (with whom solidarity), has created more minorities, more displaced people, from within its own territories and political purview. I'm aware of the displaced #Ukranians - I've visited #Poland twice since the invasion and (particularly in Warszywa) it's very obvious that Ukranians have arrived in large numbers (eg, many public signs in Polish and Ukranian). But I'd not realised that there was a problem on 'the other side' as it were (which maybe shows that I'm hugely Euro-centric in my thinking).

Anyway, a lot of talk for me - it's worth listening to this woman's voice, she's erudite and interesting (and probably thinking in four languages).
