Today is in Canada.
The day was created on June 2, 1890 as a protest for veterans of the Battle of Ridgeway during the Fenian Raids of the 1860s.
By 1892, it was an annual event to recognize Canada's veterans.
The day has mostly been eclipsed by Remembrance Day.

On Memorial Day, we honor and remember veterans and their service. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the observance was originally called Decoration Day three years after the Civil War ended on May 5, 1868. Through an act of Congress, the day officially became a national holiday in 1971.

Memorial Day is significant to me as a Black American and veteran. I remember those I served with who did not make it home and the Black people who created the day to honor those who made our freedom possible.

@SrRochardBunson is associated with remembering ancestors who died during the , particularly while fighting - treasonously - for the . No bueno!

I agree with the general idea, and the (or ) has the same purpose, and would give more purpose (actually, its original purpose).
