I've been a regular listener of the #ChatGPT #podcast by Jaeden Schafer and i have to say this episode took me by surprise. Normally the host of this podcast is a major cheerleader for #AI and he even has a couple of AI start up businesses of this own. But he got seriously spooked by this chatbot called "Pi" by #BillGates funded #InflectionAI, the second most funded AI startup the world in the world after #OpenAI.

Apparently #Pi is aligned with the values of #DeepEcology to such and extent that it values the life of a single insect as much as a human. It was, apparently, without special prompting, able to talk about the upside of the extinction of all human life in that our decomposing bodies would provide lots of fertilizer to help the environment.

This guy is not normally an alarmist, but on this episode he sounded seriously shaken.

We are caught in a bind of self-imposed delusions. We think that if a project is beneficial for one reason, that it should be done regardless of other negative impacts.

Thus, if a project claims to lower greenhouse gas emissions it is OK, no matter how else it effects the environment, natural habitats, biodiversity, ecological interrelationships and natural resource consumption.

It is this kind of thinking that lead #ArneNæss and others to develop the philosophy of #DeepEcology.

Everything that one needs to know about #ecology, #deepecology, #bioregionalism #conservation #population #naturalresources, #environmentalism, and#conservation was written in the 1970s through 1990s. Environmental science is well documented, easy to understand and easy to apply to the real world.

It only takes political, economic and cultural will to make the changes to preserve and defend the natural world from human development, and to build human societies in# harmony with the #naturalworld and its limitations, laws and processes.

Humans need shelter, food, clothing and transportation to live full and meaningful lives. It's not the human doing that we oppose, it's the overwhelming scale of that doing that we caution against and seek to change.

We resist the increasing destruction of the natural world that is destroying natural habitats and reducing biodiversity. We are all a part of the natural world. Our health and well being depend on the health and well being of all species living in healthful, supportive habitat.

Imagine with me, if you will, a world dominated by human built infrastructure, where wildlife, plants and microbes are locked away in wildlife zoos, visited by humans only occasionally as a curiosity and entertainment, riding safely protected in climate controlled electrified pods, programmed by experts, commissioners and politicians for the edification and amusement of the populace. Sound familiar?

We who oppose the destruction of the natural world do so out of love and care for all life. We seek equity, justice, inclusiveness and healthfulness for all living things, extending our care for human well being to that of all our relations.

@Snoro arguably the problem is that we’ve been putting a price tag on nature, seeing her as a resource to be pillaged. Better to embrace #deepecology and accept nature has a right to exist for her own sake. But if this gets capitalists to back off I guess it’s better than nothing.
