Lots of bunnies in #winthropMa and around #deerIsland. This one was in my backyard under the grapevine. Saw so many climbing the hill on Deer Island I had to slow down.

Surprised I've not heard the coyotes yipping out there this year. Maybe they are too full <urp>

took a little walk around #DeerIsland in #winthropMa today.

The growth on the dune is as high as a mastodon's eye... Well, maybe not that high, just as high as my eye. Still impressive. All kinds of flowers still popping off, but it's clearly past the peak.

Was allegedly out to shoot birds, but ended up taking a bunch of shots of the plants. I blame watching too much "Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't" on youtube...

Heard they are stopping people at the security station, so won't be able to walk around.

Looks like there's something hanging off one of the blades on something flexible. Saw it moving freely yesterday, so not sure if the brakes are working. Wind is very strong out of the East so if it lets go it will slingshot North or South.

Anyone in the #Boston or #WinthropMA area know why there's this huge cloud of gray smoke going up near #DeerIsland ? The smoke's nearly as tall as the tower near Old South Cemetery...

Here's your periodic reminder that the #COVID #wastewater numbers published for Eastern #Massachusetts by #Biobot based on #MWRA #DeerIsland samples are lowered by rain, because rainwater mixes in with the sewage and dilutes the samples.
If it rains through Friday then the numbers will be lowered at least through Sunday while they catch up processing the increased wastewater flow caused by the rain.
TLDR the surge is even worse than what you see on https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm for the next week.

Also, this is another timely reminder that #COVID spread in #BostonMA in the next week will be even worse than the #wastewater graph shows, because the rain we're expecting will dilute the wastewater before it is sampled at #DeerIsland.

@novid As I predicted, the #COVID #wastewater concentration at #DeerIsland dropped after the recent rain and then bounced back up. Expect it to get _much_ higher over the next two weeks. It will jump from people traveling and gathering for Christmas without adequate precautions, and then jump again from people doing the same over New Year's.

If you obsessively watch the #wastewater COVID numbers (https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm) like I do, remember that they'll be artificially deflated Dec. 15–17, because rain runoff gets mixed into the sewage and dilutes it, lowering the concentration of virus, and it can take #DeerIsland a few days after rain to process the waste in their cisterns.
