Also I think said attackers and instances that don't moderate should be shamed publicly.

Feel free to add further suggestions, because at the very least #defederating works!

@SDF @sdfpubnix Please tell me that all #SDF instances across the Fediverse will be #defederating with #threads.net
Today we celebrate the United States #defederating from England.
Happy July 4th (again).
Regarding the current discussion about #Meta and #defederating , EEE is not the first abbreviation that crossed my mind.
I was thinking more along the lines of D&C.
Divide & Conquer.
Which is exactly what it feels like.
Admins preventing people from connecting with each other (i.e., #defederating) for purely ideological reasons is EXACTLY what drives people to the bigger servers -- or away for good.
Many people who joined the #Fediverse last year were promised "it doesn't matter which server you choose, you can follow everybody, SO COOL!"
Reality two years from now will be: a shattered, totally fragmented landscape were nobody except the denizens of a few "official" servers will be able to talk with each other. And many, many insulated islands ruled by muchly benevolant dictatorships.
Fediverse Shrediverse.

OK, so I understood how #mastodon version of the #fediverse works pretty quickly. It's not that difficult, really.. I think all the reluctant twitterfolk were just being obstinate, tbh. But maybe I just kicked out by landing on a good instance pretty quickly.
...but #Lemmy (Fediverse #Reddir) . Holy hell, I have no idea what is going on with that. The infighting between instances reminds me of forum wars from the nineties. And the way #Beehaw seems to be just carving their own way in the fediverse by #defederating from a bunch of the biggest instances, along with just doing things different anyway...
And #kbin! How does that fit in? I can intact with both Lemmy and Mastodon?
Oh, my head hurts...
#mastodon #fediverse #lemmy #beehaw #defederating #kbin #reddir
However masto.art has their "high ranking place" on #most #defederating for good reason ...
@CesFelber
This is a example of when being able to #QuoteBoost would be helpful. You would have been able to boost the post with your own note explaining your reason for boosting. Without being able to annotate your boost people are drawing their own conclusions. Personally I would use the experience to encourage discussion of #QuoteBoosting and #Defederating
#quoteboost #quoteboosting #defederating
@scalzi Wait… There’s talk of #defederating mastodon.social?! When and why did this start? Does defederating mean the instance will be blocked elsewhere or just not appear on the federated timeline?
#Mastodon instances #defederating from #MastodonSocial or #MastodonOnline effectively break this platform for a large percentage of users on both those instances as well as users on instances that block them over drama.
Blocking #InfosecExchange has most certainly reduced the experience from users on those who've blocked them over #CISA, who may otherwise learn a ton from amazing #security experts there.
These actions have consequences and all end users are affected.
#Mastodon #defederating #mastodonsocial #mastodononline #infosecexchange #cisa #security
I don't think its accurate to say, "this massive instance that so many instances are #defederating from".
A hashtag is just what individuals are talking about. But only instance owners can actually defederate.
So far, I've not seen any significant defederation actually happening.
By significant, I mean an instance with thousands of users. I haven't been here long, but what I've noticed is a lot of single-user instances. In those cases, defederation (an instance blocking of other instances) has the same effect as a single user blocking a domain. No real consequence, but they get to throw around a big scary word and give false credibility of a "movement" to defederate.
Being on this massive instance that so many instances are #defederating from is bumming me out a bit. For a few reasons, I’m staying put (for now). I wonder if there are any solutions being explored by @Gargron and his team to establish more effective moderation processes? Is there any hope the other #instances won’t defederate from mastodon dot social?
So I #migrated to avoid the possible #Defederating of Mastodon.social. Hopefully I didn't act rashly!
I don't know why people are going crazy that the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency being on infosec.exchange is making people go crazy and call for a #fediblock on #Mastodon I mean you're really that worried about the data on a server that has publicly hosted messages and has direct messages with no #encryption. I think way too many of you are jumping the #defederating gun way too soon because of idealism rather than realism. Shutting out many voices at the same time
#fediblock #mastodon #encryption #defederating
@estrapade I think this is much ado about nothing, you are aware #Mastodon isn't even encrypting DM's. So if you're doing anything sensitive on Mastodon to begin with I don't know what to tell you. Personally I think way too many jump the #defederating gun way too soon and it may lead to unintended consequences

@estrapade Might #defederating increase the scrutiny of your server? Cops will know which servers and people they need to stalk.
I'm looking for advice, and I trust y'all to hold me accountable. (This is a request, no obligation on your part, two toots in a row here, thank you for your patience.)
I totally get where some folks are #defederating from a large instance *because* they're a large instance and they're concerned about moderation on those large instances and people *from* those large instances harassing the users on their own instance. Totally get that.
new to mastodon, VERY much appreciating the differences to Twitter, but trying to get my head around how to think/talk about federation: having followed several instances defederating from journa.host, and subsequent criticism/mocking of this decision on different servers or platforms on the basis of free speech, how best to explain how the rules/culture work? mastodon is a community, not a platform? #advice #mastodon #federation #defederating #culture #twittermigration

RE: #Security #Blocklists
Not so sure #defederating is better than #massblocking. My old account was heavily trolled and a peek outside the firewall was like gazing into an inferno concocted by #Dante #Bosch and #SalvadorDali on a bad acid trip. Nasty, to say the list.
