Absolutely love to see #Minneapolis Public Jerks (public works) finding out after so much fucking around. From an anon communique shared by Abolition Media today:
"On the early hours of the 24th, in response to the eviction of indigenous elders, land defenders and allies from the roof depot in East Phillips, a Minneapolis public works truck near the depot was lit on fire. ... The community of East Phillips has made their demands for environmental justice known for over a year.* The community wants the property converted into an urban farm. Despite overwhelming public response, the city is pushing forward with their plan. A burnt-out truck is a small price to pay to protect the health and safety of our neighbors.
We acted autonomously and encourage others to take matters into their own hands."
*several years, truly

A notable admission by the City of #Minneapolis in the court hearing today was that the city intended to start the demolition of the Roof Depot #DefendTheDepot site on Tuesday, 2/28.
This would have been in line with the city's recent pattern in destroying unhoused encampments: wait for 1 day after a major site defense is scheduled, then bring in the bulldozers the following morning.
We need to find a way to adapt site defense tactics - 1 day mass mobilizations are no longer enough. In 2021, the Near North camp was successfully defended on an ongoing basis after supporters organized extensive round-the-clock presence in shifts... but that was before MPD adopted their recent tactics of massive, 100+ cop SWAT-style raids with extended geographic perimeters against camps.
Upcoming actions to #DefendTheDepot and the East Phillips #Minneapolis community vision of an indoor urban farm, against the planned pollution-releasing demolition and diesel truck lot.
Demolition (by Rachel Contracting of St. Michael MN) has been stayed by 2 weeks by a judge.
"During the February 19th-26th week of solidarity everywhere to Defend the Welaunee Forest and Stop Cop City, Minneapolis is also fighting a local and connected struggle against toxic harm in the southside East Phillips Neighborhood.
On Sunday February 19th, a joint Defend East Phillips – Stop Cop City rally was held at the Roof Depot site. Many of the 100+ attendees were from Little Earth, the USA’s largest Native-preference housing project, located one block to the north, and highlighted the active colonialism of an illegitimate government seizing already stolen land both in Welaunee and in Minneapolis to enact further harm on Native communities."

Atlanta to Minneapolis, Welaunee to Mni Sota Makoce: Defend the Forest, Defend East Phillips!
Having rejected the neighborhood's grassroots proposal to build an urban farm on the site, the City of Minneapolis intends to demolish the old Roof Depot building at 28th and Hiawatha as soon as Monday 2/27, and build a Public Works diesel refueling station there. The demolition by Rachel Contracting would kick up a plume of arsenic from underground, and the refueling station would worsen the already dangerous air quality in the most heavily polluted neighborhood in south Mpls.
Across the country people are rising up to oppose destructive toxic projects in poor BIPOC communities like south Atlanta and East Phillips Minneapolis. No Cop City! No Roof Depot Demolition! Urban Farm, Not Toxic Harm!
The Sunday 2/19, 1pm rally at the Roof Depot site advertised here is just one of many calls to action to come over the coming week from a variety of organizations of different stripes as well as autonomous crews. Please share widely and stay tuned! #DefendTheDepot #UrbanFarmNotToxicHarm #Minneapolis #StopCopCity
