“The military branches are…..implementing the new congressionally mandated Basic Needs Allowance, which is designed to help active duty members with families make ends meet and address food insecurity.”

Or….raise E-1 to E-4 pay across the board? Why do they refuse to pay even a subsistence wage?

Latest downed objects could well be ‘benign,’ US says apnews.com/article/aerial-obje? "Meanwhile, U.S. officials confirmed that a first aimed at the object over Lake Huron landed instead in the water, but that a second one hit the target." The objects were likely "sky trash" according to news service Grid, which also notes each missile - including the miss - costs almost $500,000.

"All told, more than half of this giant spending budget is going to for-profit companies (such as Lockheed, Raytheon, Boeing, General Dynamics, BAE, and Northrop Grumman) whose stock prices are surging. The profits are going into executive pay, shareholder dividends, and stock buybacks.

"This is the -industrial complex that Dwight Eisenhower warned of—on steroids.

"And yet, there's almost no debate. Why?"

If you want a good example of just how shallow the debate about defense strategy is in the United States, take a gander at how Congress “debated” and passed the NDAA last week. 90% of the debate was about numbers: how large the budget should be and which weapons systems should be purchased. No strategy debate at all, really.
