@acousticmirror This exactly! Plus I’m finding that the #solarpunk imaginary helps me enormously in the thoughtwork on my plate rn: it furnishes visual and sometimes even material support for the notion that there is a there there in the conjunction of #degrowthist ethics & post-#Bookchin and -#Öcalan nonstate organizational logics I’m trying to sketch out, all undergirded by advanced but never less than #convivial and #appropriatetechnology. (*Wow* that’s a lot of words.)

I didn’t manage a #BuyNothingYear this year, and the way things are shaping up I don’t think I will during 2023 either, but did pull it off in a few years between 2004-14, and then once again in 2016. I really recommend giving it a shot! (Your ground rules as to what “nothing” means may vary; mine were food, drink, household consumables, books & gifts OK, everything else verboten.) It really brought home the #degrowthist maxim that a sense of thriving and prosperity can be decoupled from #stuff.

For years, I was one of those mildly irritating people that always had to have the Very Latest Thing, but even before coming under the heavy influence of #degrowthist thought, I’d managed to get over it. Now I’m hypermiling a filthy 2011 MacBook Air, in a stable setup running (e.g.) the last versions of the Adobe apps before they went over to a vile SaaS model that requires you to phone home and validate every so often, and I genuinely don’t know how I’ll feel when it finally gives up the ghost.
