Em hotep~! Let's talk a little about .

Nebthet (Nebet-Hwt) is a Predynastic (6,000 BCE - 3200 BCE) Deity. She is the goddess of death and mourning, sometimes listed as a river goddess.

One of my favourite aspects of her was a beer goddess the Ancients would pray to for no hangovers the next day. 🤣

She eventually became part of the Iunu (Heliopolis) group, The Ennead, making her the last born and sister to Usir, Heru-Wer, Set, and Iset. Nebthet is famously known for helping Iset in the Usir Myths.

Contrary to some beliefs, Nebthet was a rather popular goddess on her own. She was actually the first deity alongside Set to help fight against The Nope Rope each night. And had her own temples, especially during the New Kingdom.

As a Chief Mortuary deity, Nebthet was one of the protectors of a canopic jar. Specifically of Hapi, who guarded the lungs.

She has many associations from the Bennu, or pheonix, to panthers, leopards, and kites (a type of falcon,) even dolphins!

Nebthet, aside from being an important mortuary goddess, was a fierce protection deity who carried epithets like Eye of Ra and Whose Flame is Painful.

Dua Nebthet. :blobCatHeart:

Em hotep~! Let's talk about :blobcatlove:

Set (Setesh, Sutekh) is a Predynastic (6,000 BCE - 3200 BCE) Deity, thought to be the original ruler and king of Upper (Southern) Egypt. He is known to be the god of storms, the desert, chaos, and war.

This is where Set finds his beginnings as possibly an oasis and desert god where those crossing the desert lands would pray to him for safe passage.

He was even depicted on the Scorpion Mace head and a few hair combs from the Predynastic Period. Some scholars believe the hippos on pieces were also attributed to him.

Later on, he became part of the Heliopolis group of deities, The Ennead, making him the third born and brother of Usir, Heru-Wer, Iset, and Nebthet. He is known as the jealous brother of Usir in the Usir Myths.

Scholars and Egyptologists are unsure what his sacred animal is and it's been up to speculation. It ranged from donkey to aardvark to even a Saluki. Some even think he is a mythological creature much like the griffons he is associated with. For now, though, they have dubbed his animal simply "set-animal" or sometimes a "sha."

Set is described as having red hair and light toned skin. Those with red hair were associated with him--like the Ramesside Pharaohs.

His history spanned thousands upon thousands of years that this small little post can barely scratch the surface of. He's quite enigmatic in a way, and heavily misunderstood, even today.

Dua Set. :blobcatlove:
