#SheMakesMusic is the theme for today's #JukeboxFridayNight, and I must start with one of the most important and influential musicians of the 20th century: Delia Derbyshire.

This track is called Pot Au Feu, and is (as far as I'm aware) one of the first pieces that Derbyshire composed and recorded that wasn't intended for a TV or radio show. It appeared on the BBC Radiophonic Music album, released in 1968 to mark ten years of the famed Radiophonic Workshop.

Yes, that thumping beat is from 1968. So far ahead of her time, it's almost absurd, and it's impossible to imagine electronic music today without Derbyshire's pioneering work.

The typical early #ElectronicMusic tends to be weird experimental plinks and ploinks. While I have nothing against that, I love David Vorhaus' White Noise album, "An Electric Storm", from 1969. It's wonderfully psychedelic, but also quite listenable. No #synths, but lots of tape manipulation. Over 1000 cuts were done for the first song. In addition to Vorhaus, it also features #DeliaDerbyshire and Brian Hodgson. My favourite track at the moment is "Your Hidden Dreams". https://youtu.be/jb6Z_yJDLXk

I looked up interviews with Delia Derbyshire and found this experimental 25 min documentary that contains some footage of her, plus interview recording, some of her music and interviews with various other folk about her and her influence.

I remember the original Dr. Who with William Hartnell.
I only got to see it occasionally as we didn't have a telly.

The scariest thing to me at eight years old was the theme music, which was arranged by the amazing Delia Derbyshire of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

She was one of the pioneers of modern electronic music -
