It's Delia Derbyshire Day! Her Dr. Who theme song first aired Nov. 23, 1963.
This is her 1962 composition "Mattachin." It is in the style of a medieval Pavane, realized with musique concrรจte and electronic sounds. #deliaderbyshireday #deliaderbyshire #drwho #electronic #electronicmusic https://archive.org/details/mattachin

It's Delia Derbyshire Day! Her Dr. Who theme song aired Nov. 23, 1963!
"Falling" from Derbyshire's and Barry Bermange's "Inventions for Radio-The Dreams"
In 1964 electronic music pioneer Derbyshire and writer Bermange made this erie collage of people telling of their nightmares of falling. Their stories are punctuated by Delia's dark ambient electronic sounds and her manipulation of the recorded tapes of the people speaking. #deliaderbyshire #deliaderbyshireday #drwho https://archive.org/details/delia_derbyshire-falling

As it is #DeliaDerbyshireDay I wanted to shine a light on this track which I wrote using entirely sounds from her archive, lent to me by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. As she's a huge inspiration to me it was an honour. I hope you enjoy it. #ExperimentalMusic #ElectronicMusic #DeliaDerbyshire

Since it's #DeliaDerbyshireDay, here's a track I recorded with Gilli Smyth, the incredible #psychedelic vocalist, spacewhisperer, #poet, #philosopher, #feminist trailblazer of #Gong & #Mothergong. Gilli was one of the rare strong women artists in a male-dominated #music industry in the 60s & 70s. I was working very hard on an album with her when she became too ill to continue working. A very important project to us both. As yet unreleased, but who knows? Entitled: Do Birds Dream in Song?
