(It's been hibernating; rolled and in storage, hence the need for some restorative care, re-blocking and pressing) I prefer more interesting needle weaving techniques, but there are intentional holes aplenty here!

For a couple of years, the Virus shawl was what every crocheter wanted to try - everyone who saw it said "I need to try that" and made one, and *their* friends saw it and... so it is Virus not only because the pattern replicates, but because it's contagious! This is in Red Heart Unforgettable, which was soft and had nice lengths of gradual color changes - decent as acrylic goes. #Fiberuary #crochet #DeliberateHoles

#DeliberateHoles for #fiberuary week 3 - a shawl. Made from undyed alpaca yarn my in-laws brought back from Peru. The pattern is supposed to invoke the shape of horseshoes.

#fiberuary these are all #deliberateholes, promise. I sill have to block this monster though...

I always like playing with yarn/thread weights to see how differently a pattern will come out just from that. I usually take a small doily pattern & see if I can make a dishcloth or hot pad by making them in worsted rather than thread... but this time I took a dishcloth pattern (and old favorite, in fact; I've done So Many of these over the years) and knit it up in thread!

It worked so well, that I made a second one for my mother's birthday in 2020 ^_^

A different #deliberateholes example for #fiberuary #texture week - for the Purl Pouch you create a “channel” for your ties. You knit and leave holes where the lines will come out. You continue knitting enough fabric to fold over. You make two i-cords and run them through the holes. Then pick up and knit along the fold to encase the i-cords inside the channel (yellow). I'm pretty pleased with only my third go and how quickly it comes together once you get going with the thicker 'thread'. Now I need to decide what hat I'm making. Perhaps the most obvious example of deliberate holes in #crochet is the granny square - for many people, the first thing they learn how to make after a starting chain. Here's a granny half-square triangle shawl - with armholes! This turns it into a shawl-vest (or shawl-waistcoat if you prefer) that stays on easier but covers less of tge shoulders. #DeliberateHoles #Fiberuary
