@loadhigh I think I'll redo the original pixel art. I'll rework the upscaled 640x480 version in Cosmigo ProMotion, a professional pixel art tool for retro game designers loosely based on DPaint, using some of my AI results for reference. My Cosmigo version is very outdated (4.7, some 20 years old), but fortunately it still runs on Wine.

@loadhigh @256 Here's the upscaled version. I've been using that as a seed image for Stable Diffusion, with prompts beginning with the description of the image, followed by description of styles, techniques, artists.

If you've ever used Deluxe Paint (a.k.a. 'DPaint') on the Amiga (or maybe the obscure MS-DOS version), you will undoubtedly like this DPaint resurrection.

The ready-to-use executable is Windows-only for now.

I managed to find a copy of the DeluxePaint II Enhanced (IBM/DOS) manual and had it shipped from the UK to the US at some cost. It came in the mail today. I scanned it and uploaded the PDF to archive.org, since there doesn't seem to be a scan of it anywhere that I could find on the internet (until now, you're welcome). You can download it here: https://archive.org/details/deluxepaint-ii-enhanced-manual-for-ibm
Enjoy!

I posted by #DeluxePaint II for #DOS research and findings (and files) here: https://thezerobit.neocities.org/deluxe-paint-pc/
This took several hours to compile. The next thing I need to add to that page is Deluxe Paint Animation which is the DOS port of Deluxe Paint III released in 1990.
I haven't had a chance to verify, but I found a barebones (just the .EXE) copy of Deluxe Paint II Enhanced version 2.1 on the web. Since we already have versions 2.3 and 2.4, this is mostly of historical interest. https://github.com/Fortyseven/RA_1993
I also found a more complete version of DPe 2.3 with the ARTWORK folder intact. I'm going to have to put up a Deluxe Paint (for IBM) preservation page with everything I have found at some point.
Still looking for a copy of 2.0 and 2.2
Chris Mayer also wrote Studio 8 "The Professional Paint Program" from EA, which appears to be a drawing program for the Macintosh. The back of the box lists a bunch of features that sounds exactly like #DeluxePaint features: 3D perspective, image based brushes, color cycling, and "masking" which sounds like DP's stencils. https://rhodblog.wordpress.com/2013/07/28/nouveaute-apple-macintosh-studio8-delectronic-arts/ #Studio8
OK, so, yesterday I discovered that I had found the missing last version of #DeluxePaint II Enhanced for IBM/DOS. Where it comes from is interesting, I found it on discmaster on the recently leaked "Duke Nukem Forever Assets 1998/1999" disc. So, the folks at 3D Realms had the real latest version of the software, which somehow didn't make it to the internet until the recent leak of the Duke Nukem Forever assets. Here are the files: http://discmaster.textfiles.com/browse/14413/Duke4Back122399.iso/bright/outgoing/DP #DOS #DukeNukem
I believe that Christopher "Chris" Mayer was an employee of EA and actually created the last version of #DeluxePaint II Enhanced: version 2.4 in 1993 the knowledge of which does not seem to exist according to anything any search engine can find.
#DeluxePaint version 2.4 comes with 2 additional menu options under Pict: "Scanner..." and "Convert..." which open separate programs: a scanner program (for reading scans from a scanner) and a graphical image converter program. These are called SCANNER.EXE and CONVERT.EXE. These are new and not present in any other version. There is a CONVERT.EXE with other versions, but it is smaller (86KB vs 130KB) and not graphical. Did Chris Mayer enhance the converter and write a scanner program?
So, here are 3 versions of #DeluxePaint II Enhanced for #DOS that I have. Version 2.4 looks like a one-off hack (probably of 2.3) since it contains the text "Upgrade by Christopher Mayer" that version 3.0 is lacking.
It may be coincidence, but I found this article http://dallashodgson.info/articles/dpaint.htm which says "Chris Mayer, a former PC video card device driver engineer, maintained the IBM version of DPaint while I was there [EA]." Did Chris make this weird, possibly unofficial "2.4" version in 1993?
