There is something very fishy about this Demand Flexibility Service.

My own supplier (#ShellEnergy) are not taking part yet, but have made it clear that if I want to take part in the future, I will need to sign up for marketing emails.

And it's not just Shell: E.ON are also only offering it to people who have opted into marketing communications.

Why? I really cannot see why there has to be a link with marketing.

And the real kicker is that you have to sign up to receive 3rd-party marketing emails, or they'll never invite you at all.

#NationalGrid #ESO will be activating a live #DemandFlexibilityService tomorrow in an attempt to reduce load by around 300 MW.

This service actively encourages households to reduce their consumption and will help to keep enough generation to meet demand. The service is required from 5pm to 6pm.

Saved 98% on the last Saving Session, a total of 3.214 kWh lower than typical usage. That's bagged another 5792 OctoPoints worth £7.24.

That's the most so far! Not sure how much effect moving loads into the In Day Adjustment window had on that figure. Total now 10048 points, not much compared to some of you out there but better than nowt.

@hobbitswife I'm getting all our power usage in between 1pm and 4pm, since that's the In Day Adjustment window for a 5pm session, so should bump up our adjusted baseline a bit and give more saving. I suppose it's "gaming" the system a bit but I'm not using any extra power unnecessarily, just load-shifting in an optimised way.

Two thirds of the way though tonight's Saving Session. so far I normally get the house down to 26W which is just the router, a switch, and a Raspberry Pi.

But at the start of the session I accidentally switched the house sockets off as well so now it's 0W 🤦‍♂️. My ZigBee CAD needs WiFi to upload its data so I've messed that up but may as well leave it off until 6pm now.

Results are in, there was a delay in getting reading from one particular brand of meter and it shouldn't usually take this long.

I saved 0.545 kWh, a reduction of 96% of my typical usage over the last 10 weekdays. Earned 984 OctoPoints worth £1.23, plus another 100 points for the session streak, and 8 more entries into the the draw for the next spot prize. The whole session saved 102MWh and 25,530kg of CO2.
