Hello👋! This is my #introduction post.

I am a political scientist at Altınbaş University and the head of political science and public administration department. My academic interests are at the intersection of #politicaltheory and #ComparativePolitics. I got my PhD from Boğaziçi University in 2019 with a thesis on a conceptual analysis of secularism as a constitutional principle. Recently, I’ve been working on #democratictheory, #democratization, #autocratization, and political participation.

I like to think Shell Shocked, my book on Feminist Criticsm after Trump (2021) contributed in some small way to this excellent choice for word of the year: “gaslighting ,” though the definition here is less insidious than the sense one gets from Homer, Morrison, the film Gaslight, and the series Stranger Things (which I discuss) Importantly, as I argue, the gaslight in all of these sources is not just poison but also cure (or off-ramp anyway) #feministtheory, #politicaltheory, #democratictheory

My work emerges from the history of political thought, but I give special attention to American and African American political thought and its relationship to the meaning and fate of democracy. I see in the philosophical past resources for understanding and grappling with contemporary problems related to anti-blackness, freedom, and equality.
